“Takers” is making its rounds on Starz.
More style than substance, and not even that stylisitc, this is a movie I’ve got recommend you take a pass on. I got sucked in by the cast. Matt Dillon, Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Zoe Saldana… there’s got to be something happening here, right?
No, not really.
Takers is a bank robbery movie, but unlike other movies in the genre, this movie never really establishes the characters credibility as high end thieves. The jobs they pull are really like, laughably simplistic. I doubt these guys could rob my neighborhood Seven Eleven and get away with it. The movie does establish they’d all look good blowing the money in style afterwards, though. Lots of shots of high class cars, champagne and cigars set to music montages – there’s no doubt these guys live the high life with their ill gotten gains.
In the midst of it is Matt Dillon as the Cop who’s trying to take them down. Thats about all thats worth saying about that.
At the end of the day, the movie is so superficial that when the obligatory shoot outs start coming at the end, you’re left thinking, meh… so what?
I can only think of two scenes worth recommending in this movie. Thats not a good sign. C-
