Tossin’ It Out There: What are YOUR favorite movie “Moments”?

So, I know I may have mentioned having “movies you’re embarrassed you haven’t seen yet” as this week’s tossin’ it out there, but hopefully we’ll have a lot of new friends checking in this week after the Great Lebowski Fest of 2011. And thus, for the same reason I’ve been putting off “Guilty Pleasures”, I decided to go with something a little less… embarrassing.

Instead, let me ask you this. What are your favorite movie “Moments”?

Now, NOT scenes mind you. We’ll do that later at some point. Moments. A second, a couple seconds tops. Something sudden happens, someone realizes something, there’s a plot twist or a character change… there’s a moment.

I’m sure most of you know I usually hold of on posting mine til later in the thread, but I figure with this one I’ll go first to help clarify. Last week while I was watching “Unforgiven” to do the MTESS for the week, I watched Clint Eastwood take a slug off of the kid’s whiskey bottle right before riding into town at the end of the movie. And I realized… that is one of my favorite movie moments EVER. I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking “Oh shit! IT IS ON NOW!!” LOL.

So what are yours? Do you have any? If not… maybe this will be a good excuse to think about your favorite movies as you try to come up with one!! :D

Let me hear it!

  1. Sorry, one more.

When Wooderson describing his car to the dude with the white Trans Am: Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin’ right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We’re talkin’ some fuckin’ muscle.

That and his reasoning for liking high school girls: That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.

I think the peach colored pants really top it all off for me.

    • Not that those aren’t moments, they are. But this brings up a broader point. I think I should make it a rule that you can just bring up Wooderson in any discussion here, freely.

Tossin’ It Out There: What’s YOUR favorite Politcal Movie?

Commenter: “I know it really doesn’t apply, but I love when Wooderson hits on that red head with the curly hair in Dazed and Confused”

Fogs: “Oh yeah, that’s a good one! :D”

Tossin’ It Out There: What do YOU think the best death scene ever was?

Commenter: “I know he doesn’t really die… but when they go to get Aerosmith tickets at the end of Dazed? That’s awesome!”

Fogs: “Yeah, yeah. I was just thinking that too!”

  2. Damn- Why you samcking my boy Digger down-
    Diggs- How’s it goin?

On the pther hand I must admit reading Fogs’ post made me think “You really are funny.” Which of course brings up Goodfellas- Nothng but great moments, but, of course the first that comes to my mind is when Morrie gets whacked…”Did I tell you about the points we were shaving in Clevla….”

  3. What’s up G? What about the classic Morrie’s hair piece falling off his head as DeNiro is choking him with the phone cord and Henry is just sitting there laughing?

Wooderson is banned huh? Not sure how I feel about that. Especially after he does that little hip move after talking about the high school girls.

    Put that coffee down!

They drew first blood, not me.

When Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character does heroin with the dealer in Rush.

    Ya stutterin prick ya….

  4. Signs: when you first see the image of the alien scooting through the kids birthday party

Lion King: when scar whispers to simba ” I killed mufasa”

Jaws: when you first see the silhouette of the giant mother $#&in shark

The hangover: naked ken jeong jumping out of the trunk

  5. Gran Torino: Walt’s son and daughter in law give him the telephone as a birthday present and suggest him to move to a retirement home. Well, for a couple of seconds you see Clint’s very angry face (http://cineocchio.altervista.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/gran-torino-eastwood-imgfilm-incaz.jpg) and you know… You just know!

I’m sure I have so many other “moments” that will suddenly pop up in my mind… In case, I’ll keep posting :)

  6. A couple more:

    Gladiator: “Maximus the Merciful!”

The Princess Bride: So many, but I’m going to go with one of the ones that’s not funny and is more quietly awesome than overt. “I swear by the soul of my father, Domingo Montoya, you will reach the top alive”. It’s your first real indication that Inigo (and by extension, Fezzik) isn’t just affable, but is genuinely a good man.

Sneakers: “Anybody want to crash a couple of passenger jets?” And right then, they stop joking around as it dawns on them and the audience realize just how dangerous the codebreaker really is.

    • Not a big transformers guy, myself. But I’m on board with Jurassic Park, bigtime.

That’s a great shot… I’d also list the cup of water starting to shake and the first time they see dinosaurs.

      That’s an awesome flick…

      • Yea the cup shaking is an iconic shot… when the Raptor opens the door with his hand is another favourite moment of mine…
