Ok, everyone, let’s do another “Do Si Do”!
To refresh everyone’s memory, back in December I posted a “Tossin’ It Out There” designed to get people talking to each other here. In order to post a new comment, people had to leave a comment on someone else’s post. I’d really like to encourage people to feel free to add their comments to other people’s comments in order to foster discussion here, so I thought that was a good way to get that ball rolling.
It was pretty well received.
So I’d like to do it again, maybe make it a regular topic every couple of months. Here’s the “Rules”:
1) Before you can start a “New Reply”, you have to reply to someone else’s comment. Each comment should have their own reply link on it – use that to place your reply on someone elses. Obviously the first person to comment today is excepted from that.
2) Once you have commented on someone’s comment, please start a comment of your own. This way, the discussion will grow, and people will get more options for making their initial reply. Last time, some people got a little hung up by replying to others, but then not leaving their own comments.
3) You’re free, of course, to comment afterwards freely as you see fit!
Let’s all remember that the purpose here is to have some fun and foster conversation between all the people who visit the blog, so be respectful… Also be on the lookout and try to hook up some comments that aren’t getting any love as best you can. LOL.
Today’s topic is easy and fun. Share a laugh that you remember from a movie. Something that cracks you up. Could be a joke. Could be a sight gag. Could be unintentional comedy… perhaps it’s something you laugh at that the director doesn’t WANT you to! LOL. Whatever it is, whether it’s from a comedy or just a moment within a serious movie. If it makes you laugh, its fair game. Try to bring up a specific moment though, and not an entire movie. Although today’s judges will be especially lenient.
Ok? Hopefully everyone gets the idea…
Swing your partner! Let’s Do Si Do!

“You think I’m in a stressful state because I’m trying to make a good impression?”
Hitch, right? That was a good light-hearted movie. I cracked up when Will Smith was talking about “hand placement” with Kevin James (too high, friends and too low ass.) LOL And when he was sucking up to Maggie, the best friend, only to find out Maggie was the guy. HaHaHa Good choice
You are correct! Very good movie and Will is a great actor. I also had quite a few laughs. LOL!
Thanks! I am glad you liked.
I have no idea if my comment is correct like that…I hope so. In the movie I already started laughing at that stage and couldn’t stop laughing for a while… and I was hysterical by the time he saw himself in the mirror at the pharmacy.
Yup! Thanks for starting us off!
For everyone though- you might want to reference the movie for people who don’t know it!
Was that “Hitch”?
Good and yes, it was. Sorry, forgot to put the name in…LOL!
It was the movie “Hitch”
I loved “Hitch”. The mirror scene cracks me up, too. My funny scene is the opening credits to “Monty Python and The Holy Grail”. Everytime the moose was mention I started laughing. I was laughing so hard tears were running down my face.
I only saw this movie through once, laughed the whole time….loved when they came over the hill will the coconuts! LOL
John Cleese comments on the moose in opening (from http://www.artofthetitle.com/2009/09/14/monty-python-and-the-holy-grail/)
“No one had ever mentioned to me about these hilarious credits that Michael Palin had written so I sat down expecting to see a perfectly normal set of credits at the front of the movie and there was all this wonderful Nordic stuff about moose.
We first screened this at the Cannes Film Festival. These subtitles got huge laughs and right at the end of [the sequence] the film stopped and everyone laughed and applauded.”
This is a uberclassic movie to me; hilarious throughout.
“Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who.” – King of the Swamp Castle
Pound for pound, foot for foot, was there ever a film with more classic lines and laughs than this one?
Dennis You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.
King Arthur Shut up!
Dennis I mean if I went ’round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a simitar at me, they’d put me away.
King Arthur Shut up! Will you shut up!
Dennis Ah! Now we see the violence inherent in the system.
King Arthur Will you shut up!
Dennis See the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I’m being repressed!
Hitch would have been so much better with someone else than Eva Mendes as the co-star!!
Sounds good! A “must watch” on my list then.
Bastardized Swedish subtitles–”Wi not trei a holiday in Sweden this yer?See the loveli lakes. The wonderful telephone system. And mani interesting furry animals. Including the majestik moose. A moose once bit my sister. No reali! She was Karving her initials on the moose with an interspace toothbrush given her by Svenge–” ETC. LOL!
I liked the Eva Mendes and Will Smith combo myself. Thought they worked together very well.
I love the “burn the witch” scene. If you look, you can see Eric Idle chomping down on his scythe — this was to keep from laughing because John Cleese (who was married to the actress playing the witch) kept yelling out “Burn the witch!” more than his script called for.
I’m going to have to go with the “I’ll have what she’s having” scene in When Harry Met Sally.
HAAA!!
CLAS-SIC.
A top movie scene; FUN-NEE! That’s Rob Reiner’s mother. Nice one.
For me the scene that sticks in my mind is the “Waiter, there is too much pepper on my paprikash.” scene.
“Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue”
- Airplane
“They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let ‘em crash.”
“Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. ” – Rex Kramer (Robert Stack)
So many great laughs in that one.
My favorite sight gag from “Airplane!”
“They cant get lost, they have instruments!”
-Visual of all the people playing jazz in the cockpit-
Also, the classic: “Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.”
I said that one already! Man… stealin’ my picks…
What can you make out of this Johnny?
“have you ever seen a grown man naked?”
“joey, do you like gladiator movies?”
… I can make a hat, or a broach, or a teradactyl….
Timmy have you ever seen a grown man naked? This one had so MANY
That scene NEVER gets made today.
Just… unimaginable. LOL
Ha! Yes, Dan! Could you just imagine all the parent groups and whatnots going all apeshit over that kind of thing! HA! Airplane is just classic.
“Can I ask you something? These sunglasses, they’re really nice: are they government-issued, or all you guys go to the same store to get them? ” – Jack Walsh, Midnight Run
one of my favorites; interplay here is between Yaphet Koto and Robert Dinero though genius of the movie is between Dinero and Grodin in my opnion; loved it.
This comment made me say “Ohhhh” in reverence out loud.
LOL
Serrano’s got the disks Serrano’s got the disks!!
My biggest movie laugh lately has been the “Stoogestra” three stooges trailer. Busted a gut and think it may be much funnier then the movie!
Ahem.
Riiiiic…?.
Did you reply to someone else first? Today is a read the rules thread day, buddy!
no (zoom) right over my head. dang. I’ll get it right next time I swear
Its cool, man, its cool
I only gave you grief cause it was early going and I wanted people to play well with others.
Start a new comment up, throw out a funny moment for us!
(Read your titans review BTW – totally agree)
“See you in L.A. Marvin.” -Walsh ; fun throughout INDEED
John Ashton! Grew up in my hometown!
Awesome! That guy’s been in everything since Beverly Hill Cop 1 and 2; he’s recently been on Fairly Legal.
“Do I really look like Gerald Ford? ” – Sgt. Taggart, Beverly Hills Cop 2
Really, he did? I guess I was sheltered.
Well, went to high school at Enfield High. It’s on his Wikipedia page even!
Aside from that I guess I don’t know. Says he was born in Springfield though…
No kidding…. Cool!
A top movie laugh for me – Henry Winkler (Chuck) looking for the morgue drawer that Michael Keaton (Bill) has placed himself in, as Bill keeps replaying from his voice recorder:
“This is Chuck to remind Bill to Shut UP!”
So many great lines/laughs in this early Ron Howard directed movie.
Night Shift is the only movie so far with no love! That’s not fair! It introduced us to Michael Keaton!!
“The Holy Grail” A must see!(who hasn’t) My favorite scene was Sir Galahad the Chaste at Castle Anthrax! With the twin nuns Zoot and Dingo(and a dozen other white clad beauties). Dingo-”Oh bad bad Zoot! You must give her a good spanking(in the background “spank me”,”spank me”). And after that, the oral sex!” Galahad–”Well I could stay abit longer!” LOL
Speaks volumes Ray, it really does.
That scene was one of the best in that movie. Lancelot, you’re in grave danger. Ending it was perfect when Sir Galahad called Sir Lancelot gay.
Oh, my… is it Holy grail quotes time??????
“What are you gonna do, bleed on me?”
Oh lord. I think I saw this coming.
There’s only one thing to do…
FETCHEZ LA VACHE!!
“… Then shall thou count to three. Three shall be the number of thy counting and the number of thy counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. FIVE IS RIGHT OUT!”
1, 2, 4
3 sir 3
Both the Holy Grail and Airplane were the first to come to mind. Loved these movies, “go away, I’ll fart in your general direction”, “The hospital? What is it?…, great stuff.
For comedy, I’ve always loved toilet humor. For me, Jay and Silent Bob we’re the embodiment of that. Probably the funniest scene I remember was from Dogma when Chris Rock, Jay, Linda Fiorentino and Silent Bob were sitting in Mooby’s. Chris Rock was telling Linda some things she never told anyone, about some kid peeing on her. Then Jay goes, say something about me. Chris replies, “you masturbate more than any man on the planet”. Jay, “Shit holmes, tell me something everybody doesn’t know.” Chris, “You think about guys when you do it”. Silent Bob looks at Jay. Jay “Not all the time”
Dogma lost a lot of its shine for me over the course of a few years but Jay and Silent Bob always make me chuckle.
Dogma’s very “Talky”, buddy it does have Buddy Christ.
I liked almost everything from Kevin Smith. He put metal in his movies, King Diamond in Dogma, and always references pop culture, cmics and such in a weird way.
The other one I was going to mention was Will Ferrell and the Jon Stewart were ad-libbing about C.L.I.T. in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. How they kept such straight faces saying what they did, I’ll never know.
All time favorite Kevin Smith line of dialog: “What’s a Nubian?”
– Chasing Amy
Maybe it’s because I only saw Dogma a couple years ago, so the shine’s still shiny, but I can’t watch that film enough. Jay and Silent Bob begin to distract about 3/4 way through the film for me though…!
I LOVE Jay and Silent Bob duo. I think they elevate a movie to a whole new stoner’s level. LOL Dogma was a great movie, especially if you come from a Catholic background.
If you haven’t already, you should check out their podcast, Jay and Silent Bob Gets Old. Good stuff!
Epic! Jay and Silent Bob are worth the movie… along with the buddy christ, of course!
In the Loop has some of the best one-liners and best swearing and best overall threats out of any movie released since the turn of the century, right up there with movies like Anchorman but without the same visibility because it’s freakin’ British. Still, I’ll take many of the exchanges in Iannucci’s film even more those of McKay’s, like:
“You get sarcastic with me again and I will stuff so much cotton wool down your fucking throat it’ll come out your arse like the tail on a Playboy bunny.”
Or, even better:
“…I don’t want to have to read you the riot act but I am going to have to read you some extracts from the riot act, like section one, paragraph one: don’t leave your boss twisting in the wind and then burst in late, smelling like a pissed seaside donkey.”
“Look, alright, I was late for the meeting, Simon, I am sorry, but it’s not like I threw up in there, is it?”
“No, you’re right, I’m being unfair. I should be thanking you for not throwing up. Well done, you’re a star. You didn’t wet yourself, did you? You’re in the right city. You didn’t say anything overtly racist. You didn’t pull your cock out and start plucking it and shouting “Willy Banjo”. No, I’m being really unfair. You’d got so much right, without actually being there in the beginning of one of the most important moments of my career. Thanks, you’re a legend.”
Didnt want this one seeing no love.
In the loop is awesome.
I can’t quote it though. That might indicate I need to watch it more…
Love In The Loop.
“You sure you’re working as hard as me cause I’m sweating spinal fluid.”
“Shut it, Love Actually! Do you want me to hole punch your face?”
“There is a cartoon of you resting on top of the Great Wall of China, implying you’re the only political f**k up that’s visible from space”
So many great films already listed here. I’m going to have to go with Ghostbusters:
“If I’m wrong, nothing happens! We go to jail – peacefully, quietly. We’ll enjoy it! But if I’m *right*, and we *can* stop this thing… Lenny, you will have saved the lives of millions of registered voters.”
_______
Dr Ray Stantz: Gozer the Gozerian… good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Sarcastically] That oughta do it. Thanks very much, Ray.
Yes. It’s true. This man has no dick.
Well that’s what I heard!
Best thing about these quotes is not having to look them up in IMDB. lol
You mentioned favorite sight gags somewhere else… since is just “anything funny” today, I have to bring up the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Holy god, when that thing showed up… LOL Wow.
Ray has gone bye bye. Igon, what have you got?
Losing. Quote War.
Facing superior firepower…
Alternative strategy suggested… a distraction is in order….
Tell him about the Twinkie.
Well, let’s say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning’s sample, it would be a Twinkie… thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds
That’s some Twinkie!
Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Total protonic reversal.
OK. That’s bad. Good safety tip. Thanks Igon.
I think you want to BE a Ghostbuster, dont you Gelf? LOL
That should be a Tossin’ it Out there.
If you were going to Geek out at Comic-Con, what costume would YOU choose? LOL
Hmmm… I’d probably go with either the Tom Baker Dr. Who or Gandalf the Grey first… but being a Ghostbuster would be in the top 5, certainly. lol
These go to 11.
A Haberdasher or something like that.
Do you think you’d be happy doing that?
Well, I don’t know … what’re the hours?
“Ah man I shot Marvin in the face.”
“Why the f**k did you do that”
“Well I didn’t mean to do it, it was an accident. You must a hit a bump or something.”
“Car ain’t hit no motherf**king bump!”
“Oh you ready to blow? Well I’m a mushroom cloud laying motherf**ker, motherf**ker! Every time my fingers touch brain, I’m Superfly T.N.T.”
In fact? What the %$#& am I doin’ in the back?! You’re the mother &#%$er who should be on brain detail!!!
Love that flick so much man.
Nice non comedy selection PG.
Actually, Pulp Fiction’s catagory IS comedy.
Another great funny moment is in “Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy”. “The answer is ’42′”.
Whaaaaaat?
Noooooo.
Pulp Fiction is not a comedy. I dont know what youre looking at man. No way!
Checked with Wikipedia and it said some critics refered to is as “a black comedy”. Actually, it’s a mixture of many genres.
There’s some comedic elements, obviously, as we’re all here cracking each other up.
I think it should go in the “Badass” section of the video store though.
“Badass” section. Now I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Perfect title for “Pulp Fiction” ‘s genre.
Say “What” again! I dare you!
Lol. Nice catch. I did say that, didn’t I?
Check out the big brain on BRAD!
I’m just tossin this out there with a slight *spoiler alert*, but what is with movies nowadays killing off the gods of Olympus? Does anyone else think this trend is kinda weird? I mean, I remember growing up and knowing that you in movie-dom, you didn’t mess with the gods of Olympus. They were immortal and would mess you up. Yet in Immortals and Wrath of the Titans, the writers seem to have no issue with going against the grain of tradition and killing off powerful beings of Greek mythology…hence making them no more powerful or special than humanity possibly. Isn’t this odd? I mean…when EVER does Zeus die?
Wondering if this wound up on the wrong thread somehow…
But yeah. That was lame. As was him being chained up by lava.
There was a certain degree of dumbness permeating that movie’s very DNA, T. There really was.
lol. yep, I meant to post this comment on Wrath’s review. ha. oops.
Whatever.
Now its funny because of that! LOL!!
Gonna make it… gonna make it… gonna make it… Made it! [WHUMP] Ow…
Man, a lot of my favorites has been taken. Anyway, here I go…
“Ever fired your gun in the air and yelled, ‘Aaaaaaah?’”
“Is it true that there’s a point on a man’s head where if you shoot it, it will blow up?”
“Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?”
Hot Fuzz! I just love that movie. I was going to go with Shaun of the Dead, but I thought Hot Fuzz had better one liners.
I recognized it. That movie’s some funny shit.
I have to revisit Shaun of the Dead if I ever wind up with time.
I’ve made some promises, because apparently, I dont sufficiently revere it.
“Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?”
Ahah, that’s a good one!! LOVE that movie, and you’re right, so many great one-liners from Pegg/Frost! Timothy Dalton’s great as the creepy Simon Skinner:
“A slasher… of prices! I’m Simon Skinner – I run the local supermarché. Drop in see me later – my discounts are *criminal*.”
HAHA. I was going to add that line, but I thought maybe no one would remember that line. I’ve always said that they should make a Hot Fuzz 2: Fuzz Harder. You like my title? LOL
LOL. Its good yeah.
How about “Hot Fuzz 2: Fuzz Hotter”, though… that way it gets the Die Hard 2 play off… PLUS the semi-Palindrome aspect!
Huh? Huh? Huh?
Now I think I need to watch Hot Fuzz tonight. It’s the physical comedy in it that gets to me too!
Sorry I’m late to this game but I thought this monologue from Will Ferrell in ‘The Other Guys’ is hilarious!
““OK, first off: a lion, swimming in the ocean. Lions don’t like water. If you placed it near a river or some sort of fresh water source, that make sense. But you find yourself in the ocean, 20 foot wave, I’m assuming off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full grown 800 pound tuna with his 20 or 30 friends, you lose that battle, you lose that battle 9 times out of 10.”
Haha that was great, loads of great lines.
‘you turned my beautiful Prius into a nightmare’
This is an unintentional LOL from me. The Mummy Returns, best illustrated with a vid:
That delayed NOOO gets me every time!
There you go!! The first “Unintentional” laugh of the thread I believe!
Love those!
I think the whole “Mummy” series was kind of funny… did you hear they’re remaking it? That news just broke yesterday.
I love the first Mummy flick, the second is my guilty pleasure while I kinda almost hate the third. The introduction of Maria Bello really ticked me off! She was no Rachel Weisz!
Are they remaking the Brendan Frasier ones or just doing another film using the Mummy monster theme?
“She was no Rachel Weisz!”
*Ahem* Few women are.
Anyways, the word I heard was “Reboot”. Sorry to say yesterday was really busy and I didnt actually read the articles, but… the info’s out there if you wanna look I’m sure the usual suspects will all have them for you!
I heard the term “reboot” as well, but I kind of wonder the same thing as Jaina. After all, I remember the first Brendan Fraser one being called a “remake” of the old classic monster movie, when it very obviously isn’t in retrospect.
Knowing Hollywood’s current trends, I’d expect a straight-up remake of the series instead of something new, but I’d hope for the latter.
I love this. Great idea, Fogs!
So…the ashes scene from The Big Lebowski. I’ve seen it like a thousand time, but everytime I laugh so hard, just like the first one.
And, recently, a scene from The Avengers trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49UL9GamHhc&feature=share
Loki: I have an army
Stark: we have a Hulk … [Hulk scene] … Yeah!
Ohhh. The Big Lebowski. I mean…. any scene there for me. I love that flick.
I think my biggest laugh there is where he drops the joint into his lap and winds up crashing his car into the dumpster. The first time I saw that I alomst hurt myself laughing! Good choice Jersey!
Did you get to see this clip on the Avengers released yesterday? It looks like it’s gonna be awesome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCqfncpIjJM
How sick is that?
I can’t wait anymore. Seriously, I NEED to see this movie!
BTW, the moment I read the first line of your comment (“Ohhh. The Big Lebowski. I mean…. any scene there for me….”), the car/cigarette scene came to my mind. I’m still laughing.
Awesome. That’s what this thread’s supposed to be about Jersey!
I LOVE that scene in The Big Lebowski! It’s just the fact that he just keeps on pouring it out and it’s everywhere! That film is full of great lols.
Great Coen Brothers film. But as I looked at all the comments, no one has mentioned this line from a great movie-”Belch. Pffft.” That’s from the campfire scene in “Blazing Saddles”.
