  1. Tough call between Fogs & Jason. The first 4 for each are top notch. The next six for each had some ups and downs, but I think I gave the edge to Fogs with the selection of Say Anything in the 10th. Would’ve have preferred to see Rocky IV instead of Rocky III. So there’s my vote. Fun stuff!

  2. Fogs would’ve gotten my vote outright based on his selection of “The Empire Strikes Back” at #1, but looking at your line-ups as a whole, I’ve gotta go with Ben’s list. So many iconic 80′s classics from top to near-bottom and a little something for the kiddies with “Monster Squad” to round it out. Well, since we’re all playing, let me give you my 10 of those that we would show over at the Cold Slitherplex:

    1. Trading Places (Boo-boo yah, Boo-boo yah, Boo-boo yah, AH-HAH!!)
    2. Rocky IV (RIP Apollo Creed)
    3. Karate Kid, Part II (better final fight scene)
    4. Splash (could’ve also went Bachelor Party or Big here, but gotta have a Hanks movie)
    5. Tron
    6. A Fish Called Wanda (for our Euro fans)
    7. Glory (Broderick, Washington and Freeman)
    8. Big Trouble In Little China (Jack Burton)
    9. The Last Dragon (Bruce Leroy!)
    10. Do The Right Thing (Thank god for the left nipple…)

    • And Thank God for the Right Nipple.

      LOL

As long as we’re commenting dissecting…

Karate Kid II over I? LOL Are you crazy?

Aside from that, Do the Right thing didnt get picked by me because I dont associate it with the 80s, even though obviously it was when it was released. Like Blade Runner, I think its an all time great, I just – in spite of RR’s boom box, the hair cuts and some of the clothes – consider that one more on the timeless side. Definitely one of the best films of the decade, though.

      And that’s the truth, Ruth.

Been taking heat from a couple of different sources over not picking Tron. :(

      • Let’s be clear… Karate Kid I is obviously the better film, more iconic and worthy of all the accolades. I just say as far as fights go, I found the final fight scene in II more exciting and thrilling than I. They even hyped in the trailers and promos that this was to the death, not for no All-Valley trophy. But what it boils down to for me is that the drum-punch beat-down of Chozen was waayyyyyy more bad-ass than the crane kick to the face of Johnny Lawrence.

But that’s just me. I also enjoy watching KKIII, because I like terrible movies too.

      • OH!

KKIII is like one of the greatest bad movies of all times. Flat out ridiculous. LOL GREAT

II though… I mean, its ok, its not a bad flick. But I cant even give it that fight scene over I. Give me the All Valley Tourney any day.

You’re the best! AROUND!! Nothings ever gonna keep you down!

        Sweep the leg.

  3. Fogs, I gotta tell ya – with the way you’ve been spamming my Twitter and Facebook feeds with your nonstop begging for votes, I didn’t want to vote for you. ;)

But your team earned it. With something like this, where the rosters aren’t *all* that deep, it came down to the weak spots on each team, and yours (in my eyes, Scarface and Rocky III – and 3 only because I, too, would have gone for 4) were just way better than everyone else’s. On top of that, I’m not a horror guy, and Tank’s team (which would get my 3rd place vote after Ben’s team) is just too heavy on it. On top of THAT, your top 3 are fucking golden and blow everyone else’s away. I love Stand By Me, and Poltergeist is a solid late-round choice (though I’d take The Thing over it any day, and it went undrafted), but both in the first three rounds? Unconscionable!

Looks like you’re gonna lose, Fogs, but ya never know…might get a late swing…

  4. Fogs, although I disagree with you strongly on Scarface (way overrated!), I did give my vote to your picks. Star Trek II and Say Anything made it easy at the end, and Rocky III is a great choice too.

    • There you go Dan! Dan tha man! :D

You MIGHT be looking at Scarface the wrong way though. It’s not like, straight up classically good like say the Godfather or Apocalypse Now, say… it’s cheese. Its total cheese. I think you need to see it like five times in a week and then it’ll set in. Once you start quoting Tony Montana, you cant stop.

Great flick. And a MAJOR pop culture player… Just saying. :)

Thanks for listening though, and definitely thanks for your vote!!
