Tossin’ It Out There: What movie have YOU anticipated the most?

It’s no secret that I’ve been frothing at the mouth over the upcoming Bond movie, “Skyfall”. This week, I realized it may be my most highly anticipated movie ever. Between the rave reviews, the fact that its been an extra couple of years since the last one, being a huge Bond aficionado and having a blogging platform to rile up the discussion, I may just be more psyched up for this movie than I ever have been for a film.

What movie has been YOUR most anticipated? I’m certain that a lot of people are going to answer with the “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace”, but the field is really wide open. Who knows why people would look forward to certain movies more than others? Perhaps it was a literary adaptation from a novel you really liked, or a sequel to a movie that you and your friends really loved. A certain installment of a long running franchise… maybe you couldn’t wait to see how Rocky would follow up toppling communism.

Whether its your favorite actor or actress, or a recurring character, or a chapter in a series of films, we’ve all anxiously awaited a new movie at some point in time or another. So let’s hear it! Which movie was YOUR most anticipated?

  1. For sure The Dark Knight. That movie dominated my thoughts for months. Thankfully the final product lived up to the hype.

After that would probably be The Dark Knight Rises which….didn’t exactly live up to expectations.

    • Precisely. Yeah, the first Dark Knight was kind of a prefect storm of publicity, between bringing back the joker, following up the successful first franchise, the fact that they had a kick ass product to promote, and of course, the tragedy surrounding Ledger’s death :(

  2. Oh man, that’s tough to answer. It may just be Star Wars Episode 1, even though I’ve long since seen the light and wholly abandoned being a fan of the Star Wars franchise. I remember being really psyched for that film back in 98.

Recently, I was really looking forward to Prometheus (a two-year+ wait) and that ended up being one of the most heartbreaking disappointments I’ve ever experienced in a cinema. I’m still not over that goddamned stinker. *sigh*

    • A big “Yup” all the way through that reply Dave. I was psyched for both, too, and both let me down as well :(

I thought Prometheus was still enjoyable as a spectacle, but compared to what it could have been… it definitely WAS a bigtime let down.

  3. I’d probably have to go with Pulp Fiction. I couldn’t wait to see that after falling head over heels for Reservoir Dogs and True Romance. I also greatly anticipated Righteous Kill to see DeNiro and Pacino again. Sadly, that film is also my biggest letdown.

    • Righteous Kill! LOL Getting two shout outs here today… someone else mentioned that too. :D Gahd that movie is awful….

Pulp Fiction didnt sneak up on me, but I saw it before Dogs. So… that was the movie that put Tarantino on my radar. Otherwise Id have been psyched too seeing as thats in my top five all time. :D

  4. That’s a tough call, actually…

The last movie I remember getting REALLY pumped for was Jurassic Park when I was a kid. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to see it but I grew up with a huge love for all things dinosaur, so it was a match made in heaven. I even read the Crichton novel immediately after the film was released, which was weird since I was 10 or 11 at the time…

So apparently I’ve gone about 20 years without getting super excited about another movie – or at least none that I can remember. That’s kind of a bummer, actually.

  5. For me, it’s probably Scream 4. I’m a huge fan of the first three, and I had a calender countdown for it and everything. This year though, I was jumping up and down for Wreck-It Ralph lol. I’m really excited for Kick-Ass 2 and Carrie, though. I don’t often give straight answers ;)

    • LOL. Thats fine.

Scream 4 dissapointed you, I’m betting? I know it did me. I dont think it would rise to the level of being my answer here, but I was looking forward to that, too. Not a fan of the end product though, it was a big let down. :(

Hopefully that wont happen with Kick Ass 2, because that first one was great! Awesome flick :D

      • No, actually! I mean it could have been much better, and it did borrow half of the content from the first, but I was generally pleased with it and it sure was better than Craven’s My Soul to Take! Yeah I’m hoping so too, maybe Carrey will bring some of his signature comedy to the flick LOL

  6. Maybe Avengers? I was so excited for that movie, just watching all the Marvel superhero films leading up to it. I was really looking forward to it, and I wasn’t disappointed. :)

    • Surprised not to hear a Star Wars movie! :D

Meanwhile, Avengers definitely didnt disappoint. And I can see how you were anticipating it, I mean, geez. Did they ever build that movie up or what? :) Thankfully, they more than delivered on their promise, that flick was great!

  7. A few years back I got totally caught up in all the preliminary build up for a movie. I went to the movie and was so disappointed in it that I don’t even remember which movie it was. All I know is that ever since that movie, I get very cautious when there is to much build-up before the release date. If they need that much press before the opening in order to pack the theater, how bad is it really going to be?
