Tossin’ It Out There: What’s YOUR Favorite Movie Team?

This weekend’s release of “Rise of the Guardians” saw a movie team up of Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, The Sandman, The Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost. Together they formed “The Guardians” and fought against “Pitch”, better known to us all as The Boogeyman.

It was quite an imaginative team up, and put me in the mind to ask about teams for this week’s discussion.

With the golden age of Superhero movies upon us, there’s obviously no shortage of Superhero team movies X-Men, Fantastic Four, and The Avengers have had theirs already, with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Justice League soon to come. But teams in movies have certainly preceded superheros. From the Magnificent Seven to Force 10 from Navarone to the Dirty Dozen, there are plenty of classic teams to choose from. The Fellowship of the Ring, the Scooby Doo gang, the Ocean’s 11 gang, team movies keep getting made, too.

The judges will be lenient this week to accommodate discussion, so even if your team doesn’t technically have a NAME, if you can argue they make a “team” go for it. The Rebel Alliance gang of Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, the droids, etc? Sure! The Harry Potter kids? Wellllll… you’d need to talk me into it, but you see where I’m going. :D

So let’s hear it! Who’s YOUR favorite movie team?!

  1. What was the name of Will Ferrell’s son’s soccer team in Kicking and Screaming? I might have to go with that…

Just kidding! I suppose Bond and Q don’t count…as do Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander. Blombeth and 00Q are my picks though.

All the standard teams are boring ;) At least I’m going for people that actually work well together! Look at how bad the Avengers were at first!

    • I do love that Mike Ditka line in Kicking and Screaming though “Coffee is the number one drink in the world! Even little kids in Mexico drink coffee” I always say that when I run across people who “dont drink coffee”

Meanwhile, I did have the suspicion before I posted this that this would turn into “Create your own movie team” before long… sound like youre chomping at the bit Livi. :D

      • Well I don’t drink (or like) coffee, so what does that say about me?

Here’s another one – any crew from the Alien films. I think that’s a team, right? I like teams that are either very small or dwindle down to one person in gory yet mysterious ways.

Oh, yet another one. The Nazgul. You gotta admit they look pretty kickass coming out of the fog like that in the Fellowship.

      • The Nazgul?? First you dont drink coffe (Why dont you drink coffee? Coffee is the number one drink in the world! Even little kids in Mexico drink coffee… LOL, thanks for the setup!) Then youre busting out the EVIL teams on us?

I like the Stormtroopers, they were a team right? :D Or how about the “Agents” in the Matrix, they were a team! :D LOL

        Eeeeeeeeeevil!!

    • Yeah, as long as its not “Tower Heist” LOL

You’re right though, Heist movies always have a team, dont they? Heat, the Score, The Great Train Robbery, I love bank robbing teams… I wanna be on one. They look so cool!

  2. Okay, I’m going with my favorite movie The Right Stuff. All of the Mercury astronauts, they’re a team, right? And they’re “sick and tired of being second to those darn Russians!” But seriously, they become a pretty close knit team by the end of the film, even though they all go into space solo, they help either other out in mission control and stuff. Plus based on a true story, so that’s pretty cool.

      • Awww… you’re an Apollo 13 person, huh? (In my mind there’s a rivalry between the two films, but I think I may have made it up. Not sure.)
On this particular point, I might agree with you. In all fairness, the team in Apollo 13 gets into a way more dangerous situation, and they are in space together. I get it. Still irrationally going with The Right Stuff though, because I like the characters better too.
Yeah. Those darn Russians…. at least they make good antagonists.

      • There IS NO RIVALRY between Apollo 13 and Right Stuff. DO YOU HEAR ME?!?! NONE!

(John Glenn told me he didn’t care for Right Stuff, but loved Apollo 13… but what the hell does he know about movies anyway?)

    • Yesssssss. The Furious Five is the awesomest team ever!! Snake! Tiger! Crane! Mantis! Monkey! and of course, Master Shifu and Po!! :D I LOVE me some Kung Fu Panda. I was watching the Nikelodeon cartoon this morning for a little bit while I was eating breakfast! It’s pretty decent, if you’re a big Kung Fun Panda fan….

    • Theeeeeee Gooooooonies.

Now there’s a GREAT answer! Very nice, Jay, good one.

As to the new A Team, I’ll agree that they were good, and honestly, I wish they’d do another, too. But I don’t know if I’d put them as an answer here, though.

The original team though? Hells yeah! Don’t you wish those guys had done a movie? That would’ve been great!

  3. I see mention of The Right Stuff. Which is funny since I’m going to go with Armageddon. I like them because of the fact that it is a group of increadibly flawed people who work hard together to accomplish something big. Or maybe it is because one of my favorite actors is Steve Buscemi.

I’ve seen both the original and the remake of the Italian Job, and while I like both and I love Peter O’toole, I think the group in the remake is much better. On a funny note, the movie playing on the big screen t.v. when they go into the antagonist’s home is the original film.

I like the Avengers because of the way they set it up, doing the independent movies and then pulling them together. Most of them are people who generally work alone and are used to just handling things withought coordinating with others so they have to figure out how to work together.

    • LOL. As valid an answer as the Armegeddon team is, and they are fun characters and all… I cant resist posting this again this week because for some reason, this is the greatest video ever to me. LOL

I still need to see the original Italian Job! I should be making a list of all of these… every Tuesday I get more and more of them!

The Avengers are awesome, I’m honestly surprised it took this long for them to get brought up, and we’ve only just started!! :D Good one though, for sure.

  4. Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy
    Bud Abbott & Lou Costello
Moe, Larry, & Curley (and sometimes Shemp)
    Jack Lemmon & Walter Mathau
    Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder

    I could go on…..

  5. Cleveland Indians of “Major League”!
Harry Doyle: Heywood leads the league in most offensive categories, including nose hair. When this guy sneezes, he looks like a party favor.
Yah, who could forget Bob Uecker. His line about free admission to anyone alive when Cleveland won their last pennant, totally cracked me!
OK. Need to say it before anyone else. The Charlestown Chiefs of “Slap Shot”! Just thinking bout it makes me wanna fire up the player, spend some time with Newman and the boys. Had to go sports flix(Go Gints)!

    • Jake Taylor: I play for the Indians.
Chaire Holloway: Here in Cleveland? I didn’t know they still had a team!
Jake Taylor: Yup, we’ve got uniforms and everything, it’s really great!
      :D

Great flick. Seriously. I cant believe I didnt even think of sports teams when I wrote the intro (slapping my forehead)

      Meanwhile, “Dave’s a killer!!”

  6. I’m gonna go with the 1989 Cleveland Indians, featuring Jake Taylor, Willie “Mayes” Hayes, Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn, Pedro Cerrano, and Roger Dorn.

  7. Oh, this isn’t what I expected
I was going to say DeNiro/Scorsese…

I like your thinking with Magnificent Seven, they do have Charles Bronson after all. Everyone knows Charles Bronson makes everything better.

    • Stylish being the operative word on the Ocean’s 11 crew, absolutely. LOL. Those movies are definitely all about being slick and entertaining as opposed to being realistic. :D Not that there’s anything wrong with that, they’re a lot of fun.

But you’re certainly right when you call “Heat” more… down to Earth. LOL
