The 2012 FMR MAJOR Awards: The Worst Actress Winner

Worst Actress Winner

Worst actress. The leading lady who we scrunched our noses up at the most in 2012.

The nominees are: Drew Barrymore, “Big Miracle”, Ashley Greene, “The Apparition”, Katherine Heigl, “One for the Money”, Mila Jovovich, “Resident Evil: Retribution”, and Kristen Stewart, “Snow White and the Huntsman”.

Kristen Stewart, “Snow White and the Huntsman”

Kristen Stewart

There’s really no way around it. Stewart is a bad here. In the spirit of complete disclosure, having never seen a Twilight film (My “Too Much Twilight To Take” blogathon can only be a few months away now!), I would mildly defend Stewart on occasion… seeing as my own experience was limited to “Adventureland”. Here, though, I got the full realization about what everyone was talking about for so long.

As I watched, my thought was… “Oh, yeah, that’s bad.”

She had difficulty expressing any sort of emotional responsiveness at all… it just seemed as if she was struggling. I also noticed that they were working around her. In spite of the movie being called “Snow White”… the focus of the film was split between her, the Wicked Queen and the Huntsman. So, to the films benefit, they actually limited her screen time… and even during her big rousing speech (her big moment), I thought they cut away from her an awful lot.

Smartly.

It just seems as if she’s un-emotive, bland, and stiff. In short, at least here… she comes across as if she can’t act. Which is why, I presume, she’s earned such a reputation for herself.

The others were bad, too. Drew Barrymore offered us next to nothing in the family friendly “Big Miracle”, and I actively wondered how long she would continue her acting career. Ashley Greene isn’t going to last long in Hollywood with roles like these, so at least I doubt we’ll have to concern ourselves with her for long. Katherine Heigl illuminated me as to why everyone hates on her, as did Milla Jovovich, although I have to say, at least Milla gave me a laugh.

Leg LampKristen_StewartBut none of them could top Kristen Stewart, who could almost have been replaced by a cardboard standee of herself and no one would notice.

  1. So far I haven’t seen any of these films, but I did see Stewart in The Messengers last October; her leaden delivery there makes it entirely believable that she would turn in another non-emotive performance.

  2. Ha..ha.. well Fogs, you know I absolutely concur!! K-Stew is just the WORST even amongst people like Heigl, Aniston and Milla, because she’s so unlikable on top of being talentless.

    • I guess I still don’t know if I dislike her or anything, but I definitely had to recognize that she was really bad here. Even amongst the stiff competition she faced… She really stood out. LOL

  3. KStew didn’t get the memo that Snow White continuing without means you’re bad (either that or the casting is “going in another direction”); nice pick

  4. I think part of the problem with her in SWATH is because Charlize did such a great job of acting. Sure, she chewed up the scenery. But it worked in this movie. It was like opposite ends of the spectrum. I still loved the movie. Just wondering how much better it would have been with someone other than Kristen. As for the Twilight franchise, I stopped after the 3rd one. Didn’t see the last 2. Don’t plan on it.

    • SWatH would have been a lot better without her, I think it could have been really awesome! What if the two Snow White Movies could have just changed leads last year? I’d have taken that! At least Lilly Collins looked the part!

I liked the movie too, but it definitely could have been so much better!!

For me, on Twilight? Oh yeah. Im watching all of them. In a row.

  5. Yeah, she was pretty bad. And it’s too bad she never emotes, either. I think there was a single moment in the entire movie where she actually smiled, and I was like “Aww, now see, you have such a pretty smile! You should smile more often!”. XP

  6. You know, I feel I ought to step up and defend her because I saw this at the cinema and LOVED it. BUT,

I cannot. I’m a Twilight viewer (I make no apologies for it, the cheesefest that it truly is) so her performance in this didn’t surprise me. I wouldn’t say she was bad necessarily, more so hugely underwhelming and miscast (that just sounds like a polite way of saying ‘bad’, actually…). I remember feeling at the time how the role could have been filled by so many other actresses who’d have given it the greater depth it required. Her performance (or as you might argue – lack thereof) was too sedate for the overall feel of the film.

    • Well, keep in mind, this isnt an award for the movie. I LIKED SWatH quite a bit. It helps that 90% of it was about other things other than Stewart. LOL

I would have liked to have seen her replaced in the film too. There’s any number of actresses who could have added more to the movie :(

Your use of the phrase “Cheesefest” gives me hope for the Twilight Marathon. Maybe I wont suffer too badly… if its truly cheesy. :D

      • Cheesefest doesn’t even begin to cover it. More like a Deep Pan Cheese-crust Double Cheese pizza of a saga. It’s THAT cheesy.

      • Well, now. You better slow it down. You’re actually getting me psyched for this thing now!

I swear, if I DO wind up a fan of this thing, it’ll be the death of me as a blogger. LOL

  7. The one worst acting nomination that I actually saw and it wins? What are the chances? I do have to admit, though, that I was totally rooting for Theron as the evil queen, even though her name was the only one that didn’t appear in the title.

I’m really hoping that, by some strange and twisted — I mean truly twisted– circumstance of fate you end of liking the Twilight films when you see them. Just because I want to see your comment board light up even more than usual. Go Team Jacob!

    • LOL!! Dont give away my secrets. :D

In all honesty, I am completely aware that the funniest thing that could happen is that I wind up an ardent fan of the franchise. Of course, such a thing can not be forced or faked. So… open mind, open mind, open mind. LOL :D

      • Fogs, you will probably fall in love with Twilight. Which will lead you to writing Twilight fan fiction of such high caliber that you become rich and famous. Or maybe just a twilight tattoo.

      • That would be awesome. If I could get rich and famous off of writing Twilight fan fiction, I might take a crack at it even if the movies sucked. LOL

The Twilight tatto though has no chance. :D

    • Wellllllll I cant go all that far about the movie itself (My Worst List) I rather liked the movie. But interspersed within were slices of Stewart’s bad acting… it was just a mild distraction to the film as a whole.

I almost think she better belonged in the supporting actress category. If she didnt have the TITLE ROLE!! LOL

  8. I noticed, like you did, that as star of the movie she was running third string. The others got alot more screen time. Speaks for itself!
Maybe for the Twilight marathon you could do a live blog, running commentary, blow by blow as it were. I think you did that for Bridget Jones Diary? Yes? My advice, start taking anti-depressants now before it’s too late!

    • “Maybe for the Twilight marathon you could do a live blog, running commentary, blow by blow as it were.”

That IS the plan, but it wont be as thorough as the Chick Flick City series was. For those, I was constantly pausing and writing, etc… which multiplied the time it would take to get through each film. I cant do that for Twilight if I want to do five in one day.

So, yes, I will, but to a limited extent.

  9. Yay! I’m so glad you picked her. When I saw the list I knew it had to be her. It still makes me mad! Mad. Mad. Mad. That could have been such an epic film. A great fantasy movie…but no, KS had to be cast and I just can’t watch it. She is so bad!

  10. Thank you!!! I do not understand how she EVER got a job in acting! The girl has no emotions whatsoever! If she keeps acting, she could probably win this award every single year. I just don’t understand. And I’m so pissed that they put her in the Twilight series because the books were phenomenal, but she complete destroyed the series (along with 90% of the cast who also had no acting talent whatsoever) and I can’t even bring myself to watch past the first one. Please Hollywood, stop letting her ruin movies that are so promising!

    • Uh oh. I dont like hearing things like “I cant watch past the first one”, seeing as I’ve signed myself up to watch all five in a row. LOL. That’s not a good sign.

She is certainly not the most expressive actress ever. I thought she was ok in Adventureland, where she basically just played a shy teen girl who…. wasnt very expressive. LOL. Then when I saw this, it was just such a struggle for her. I realized, uh oh. She really has trouble, huh? :(

      • Haha sorry to make you dread it anymore. The first 2 aren’t awful, but then it just completely falls off the cliff. And I can’t blame their horribleness all on Kristin Stewart because they’re all pretty bad actors. But anyway, enjoy! =P
