Tossin’ It Out There: Plug Your Blog

plugOk, everyone, here we go! Once again, Fogs flirts with folly, as I decide to live on the wild side and open this thread up to people link dumping and plugging their own sites!

In light of my second straight nomination for Best Community Builder, and stolen from following 3Guys1Movie’s last “Hump Day Have Your Say” topic, where they courted links and requested blog recommendations, I felt it might be a good idea to do some community building and let bloggers have a chance to tout their own sites. Hopefully, it will give us all a chance to find some more blogs and get to know each other a little better.

Could this blow up in my face? Yesssss, yes, it could. LOL :D I can easily think of three or four ways this could wind up in disaster.

Here’s the catch! If you drop a link to your blog (and you can be as verbose as you like in trying to entice visitors) YOU HAVE TO BE ON YOUR HONOR YOU WILL VISIT ANOTHER BLOG POSTED HERE! (Preferably one you’ve never visited before.) I think it’s only fair, and if we put that in place, it will up the chance of people actually visiting others, and seeing some actual referals out of this!

Now, for those of you who don’t blog, this will be a fine opportunity for you to find other blogs and see what they’re all about. Feel free to comment on any comments that you like, but please, let’s be supportive, ok? ;)

So! Let’s hear it. Tell us about your blog. Drop a link to your favorite article, or your homepage. Tell us why you started blogging, or why you keep blogging, or what you hate about blogging, it’s up to you. Dont say anything, and just dump a link! That’s fine too. For everyone that reads and visits, let’s show that FMR Community spirit by taking a minute and clicking through and visiting some new folks!

Ok, that’s it! Let’s have at it! Plug your blog!

    • I may wind up revealing the other side of that coin here before all is said and done Le0p; a jackass and a buffoon. LOL ;)

People want to do it whether they have permission or not, so today I decided to open the floodgates and put my money where my mouth is on this “Community Building Thing” ;)

  1. You are indeed the man, Fogs. :)

Don’t know how many are interested, but I do a blog called The Webcomic Overlook. I read and review a variety of the free comics you can find online. It’s more interesting than it sounds… Honest! Also, from time to time, I take a look a really really old comics, some dating all the way to the 1800’s.

  2. TempleHorses.com for your dose of hilarity, and funny videos from the Friars Club Comedy Film Festival award winners – Temple Horses! Is this a blog? Not really. Is it worth your time to check out and possibly use our content for your readership on a day you feel lazy and don’t feel like writing? Definitely.

    Love and Oats,
    Ryan and Nick

  3. Great idea, Fog! Well, my blog is http://www.obsessiveviewer.com, where I review and comment on TV shows and movies I watch.

I’m pretty new to blogging in general. I started it in February out of boredom and already have a ton of ideas for posts down the road. I have a couple favorite articles so far. First is my mega review of the Alien Anthology blu-ray set: http://obsessiveviewer.wordpress.com/2013/03/29/building-better-blu-rays-the-alien-anthology-review/ It’s the best blu-ray collection I’ve ever seen and I feel like some people are too upset by the 3rd and 4th movies to give it a chance.

Another favorite is the article that made me start the blog in the first place. I got to thinking about Netflix’s dive into original programming and obsessed over it for months until it spilled out in blog-form. I’m fascinated by what they’re doing. Here’s my thoughts on it: http://obsessiveviewer.wordpress.com/2013/02/13/how-netflix-could-revolutionize-the-way-television-works/

Troubles I’ve faced including finding the time to write. Lately, I’ve been busy and I’ve burned through my backlog of postdated entries. I’m getting back into the swing of things now though. Another issue I have is figuring out if I can mask my domain forwarding through GoDaddy without it masking every page with “obsessiveviewer.com.” I’m not that tech savvy and GoDaddy support hasn’t been too helpful. Other than that, I’m enjoying it.

I’m bookmarking this comment thread specifically to see what other blogs are posted. I love finding new takes on things I enjoy.

    • We’ll see how great an idea it winds up. LOL We’ll see. (Theres an S on the end there, btw. FogS ;) )

Nothing wrong with being new, we all start out as newbies! Hopefully a few extra people will check out your stuff today!

I hope you find some new blogs to visit today too, and hope those tech issues turn out alright! :D

      • I noticed that as soon as I hit send! Agh! That’s what I get for working the night shift, I suppose. I grabbed a lot of new followers thanks to your post. And I’ve found a lot of new ones to check out. So thanks!

  4. Great idea, always looking for new blogs to visit!

If anyone is even remotely interested in the horror genre head over to my blog http://rhinoshorror.com/ — I try to keep my readers up to date on the horror that actually matters as well as showcasing a lot of great art and short films!

  5. Fogs, you are AWESOME!! You just asked me to post about exactly what I wrote about this morning! Why do I blog? So here’s the link: http://klling.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/daily-prompt-million-dollar-question/
But then, my blog is everything rolled up in one..books, movies, writing, photography, travel, resto reviews, etc. Lots of stuff and even complete randomness :) Even doing my workout logs on there..haha!
I’ve taken the liberty of looking at all the links up till now..at least those I don’t follow :)

    • I try, Kim ;)

You just wrote about that TODAY? Heh. That IS a coincidence.

Ohhhh wait, It was the daily WordPress thingy, no? I think Jaina mentioned that this morning too (www.time-wellspent.com)

Nice to hear you got in the spirit of things by giving these others a looksee. I really do hope people hold up that end of the plan. Too many link places have people that just drop links and run, you know? Uhhh thats not EFFECTIVE! :D

      • You know if people just drop by and give me a link..I either edit out their links or I just don’t approve it. haha! Especially if these people never drop by before or even leave a decent respectful comment :) I work under not forcing people to drop by and only if they feel they want to return the favor. Is that a bad thing? I don’t know yet…
I already follow Jaina :P It is the WordPress daily prompt from yesterday..

      • As to that… there’s a time and place for everything, you know? Now is the time, and this is the place. Tomorrow, on a review, is not. (not that YOU do, just saying, people in general). Even with good friends of the site, I can get overwhelmed trying to keep up with people, so…

Especially in the comments on reviews and stuff. I know everyone else reviewed the movie, too. My thread isnt the place to link to them!!

  6. Thanks for the opportunity Fogs!

My blog is Forgotten Films http://forgottenfilmcast.wordpress.com/
I don’t cover new releases…I don’t cover the classics…the blog is all about the movies that time forgot.

I’ve also just started a new podcast (The Forgotten Filmcast). Episode 3 was just posted yesterday, covering “It! The Terror from Beyond Space” You can find it on iTunes!

    Thanks again!

    • No problem, Squonk! ;) I know people want to connect, it’s just one way I thought of of trying to do it. :D

Good luck with your podcast, man! They can be a challenge, but its definitely rewarding! ;)

      • I’m tellin’ ya…I get a chance for a free plug and my post of the day is one of the worst movies ever! Timing is everything.

What I really want to push, of course, is the new podcast…which hopefully I can get Fogs to guest on some time soon (nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more)

      • Oh yeah, man, sure. I love guest podcasting. You just hang up the headset when youre done and thats it! LOL :D Good times!

        Email me on it.

Hey dont knock that post, I tweeted it to a couple of people and got you a RT, too. So… who knows, maybe it tales off today! :D

  7. My blog is called ‘The Terror of Tiny Toon’ (named after the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror story) and can be found here: http://toonterror.wordpress.com/ I mostly review cartoons there, looking at them through a semi-adult perspective, but also occasionally review other entertainment related to childhood (for example, my most recent post is a book vs movie comparison of Stephen King’s It).

  8. OMG…Free advertisement! lol

    So here is mine:

    movie140.blogspot.co.uk

    Why do I blog?
Well…I go to cinema 3-4 times a week so I might as well write a few lines about each film to give others a general idea what they can expect and save them some money if the movie is crap. lol

As all the “reviews” are less than or exactly 140 characters you cannot expect written masterpieces but that is not the point anyway. It keeps me busy, off the streets and out of trouble. lol

    Cheers!! :)

    • “OMG…Free advertisement! lol” I know, right? Watch this break my comment count record. LOL  That’s alright though, that’s what its for!

I can relate to the “going to the cinema 3-4 times a week” thing.

So, basically would you consider yourself the Twitter Blogger of reviewers then? Do you tweet all your reviews, too? Theyd fit! :D

      • Yes, Twitter was the inspiration.
I used to tweet all my “reviews” and after a while I decided to set up a blog for it. Easier to keep track of my movie consumption. :) Nowadays I just tweet the link to the “review” and that is it. :)

  9. Great idea, I’m always looking to follow more blogs! I myself run a film blog called The Phi Phenomenon. I work at a movie theater and get free admission to movies, so I figured I should put all that movie-watching to good use and talk about them! I review a lot of new releases but here’s a link to my latest post, not necessarily a review but talking about what I thought of “Reservoir Dogs”. It’s a first in a series of Tarantino movies I’ll be watching this month.

    http://thephiphenomenon.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/reservoir-dogs-1992/

Can’t wait to check out all the blogs that show up here :)

    • “Great idea, I’m always looking to follow more blogs!” Well, cool then! Hopefully there will be some here you find that you really like! :D

Jealous of the whole “Free admission” thing, Emily, that must be pretty sweet!! :D

Resevoir Dogs is an awesome movie, I’ll have to hit that review myself once all of this simmers down today!

  10. On my blog I try to create awareness about lesser-known quality films that often go overlooked. I usually don’t discuss many mainstream movies, unless it’s one that I just think is really good and stands out…

I’m very opinionated and like to discuss and analyze movies/TV shows. I generally like Horror/Thriller, Drama and Comedy the most, but I like anything that stands out…

I have a slew of pages with many recommendations…

Stop by and drop me a note:

Thanks for the plug, Fogs. Getting ready for our next debate!! :)

  11. Solid idea Fogs, solid idea. I write for PG Cooper’s Movie Reviews, a site which contains reviews, lists, articles, and we’re currently starting a podcast. My site is made up of multiple writers though I’m the driving force.

As far as favourite posts, I’m proud of my 2001: A Space Odyssey review: http://pgcooper1939.wordpress.com/2012/08/30/pg-coopers-movie-of-the-month-2001-a-space-odyssey-review/

My comparison of Alien and Rosemary’s Baby: http://pgcooper1939.wordpress.com/2012/08/09/pg-cooper-movie-battles-rosemarys-baby-vs-alien/

    My Top 20 Non-2012 films I Saw in 2012: http://pgcooper1939.wordpress.com/2013/01/01/pg-cooper-top-20-non-2012-films-i-saw-in-2012/

And as far as non-movie posts go, I’ve got my list of Mass Effect characters ranked: http://pgcooper1939.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/pg-cooper-the-mass-effect-squad-members-ranked/

    Thanks again, Fogs.

  12. I can’t resist a good opportunity for a plug. I’ll definitely check back after I get home to see some of these other sites to. Great idea!

Be prepared for the upcoming summer superhero invasion with my site http://flightstightsandmovienights.com where I review every superhero movie and also have plenty of other super-material there as well!

    • “I can’t resist a good opportunity for a plug.” Few people can! LOL :D Thus this idea…

Absolutely! It’s like NTEMP’s during Oscar Season! You gotta be to be prepared!! :D

Thanks for pitching in, Bubba, be sure to click around, too, alright? ;)
