Big changes ahead at FMR

ChangeHey everyone, how’s it going?

By now I’m sure you’ve noticed the changes in FMR over the past few weeks. It’s been a few months since the last MTESS, and a couple of weeks without a “Tossin’ It Out There”. I didn’t want to make any rash decisions or announce anything prematurely, but there’s no avoiding it now: Changes are on the way for FMR.

For the past two years, my employment situation has been… extraordinarily conducive to blogging. Let’s just say that. Recently, however, I’ve taken a job that is, well… not as conducive. LOL. I have much less free time to work with, and no capability of blogging from work (as I have in the past, sshhhhhh….).

Fear not, however! Friends of FMR are coming to the rescue!

For the first time, I’ll be opening the site to running contributions from other bloggers. Morgan Lewis of Morgan on Media, and Richard Kirkham of Kirkham a Movie a Day will be helping me provide movie related content in order to keep FMR firing on all cylinders! Each of these guys are good friends of the site, and both are bloggers that I follow. I respect each of their tastes in movies, and both are great writers. I’m looking forward to watching what they bring to the site!

Morgan and I go back more than ten years online. We both contributed content to Creation Matrix and The Halls of Hysteria back in our old comic-book forum days. We got to know each other there, worked together as moderators, and then when I started FMR I was thrilled to see him become a part of the community here. Over the years, though, I’ve honestly been a bit shocked at some of the touchstone movies of pop culture that he hasn’t seen! So, he and I have discussed, and the series he’ll be contributing will be a formal exploration of those films. I’ve been granted access to his vaunted “To See List”, and I’ve chosen a lineup of some of the biggest and best for him to watch for the first time. Then in turn, he’ll share that experience with us in this series!

Richard and I met through the LAMB at some point early last year. Our mutual love of the James Bond franchise really helped us connect, I remember we had a great series of Bond conversations as he worked his way through the “James Bond: Classic, Cheese or Crap” series! Richard has been a stalwart member of the FMR community since that time, and I’ve really enjoyed reading his work over at “A Movie a Day” as well! Richard’s plan (to begin with) is to contribute a series entitled “Movies I Wish Everyone Would See”. I like it already! ;) He’s also expressed an interest in varying up his contributions as well, so there will likely be other types of posts from Richard down the line. Richard has excellent taste in movies and is a great writer, so I’m psyched to have him share his work with us!

For my part, I’ll continue to bring you reviews of everything that hits the theatres, (title pending), plus posts like “Under the Radar”, Top Tens, the Great Debates, etc… For now, though, Movies That Everyone Should See and Tossin’ It Out There are officially on hiatus. MTESS posts are too labor intensive to fit into my schedule at the moment, and… I just feel badly posting a Tossin’ It Out there without being able to reply to all the great comments. In theory I could post the topic in the morning and get to comments when I return from work at night, but if the volume holds to form, it can be a daunting task to catch up with them all. So for now, both series are on hold, but they certainly could return as things evolve.

In the meantime, I’m excited to add these two new voices to FMR, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone here get to know them better. So please help me welcome them both, we’ll have each of their first posts up this week! There may be more changes in store as we go, too, as I’ll stay on the lookout for new ways to keep the site active and rewarding!

Thanks as always for your support!!

  1. Wait a minute. You mean you have a job? I always assumed that you were an independently wealthy blogging machine. Like Bruce Wayne, I figured you might have a few ribbon cuttings that you’d have to show up at once in a while, but basically you spent your days sleeping, with an occasional visit from Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, before setting out at night to keep our fair city safe from bad movies.

Seriously though, Congratulations on the new job! And you couldn’t have chosen two finer writers to join you in transforming FMR into the Justice League!

    • LOL. I was pretty much like that, yeah. :D Except without the billions, you know? :D Nothing lasts forever though. Back to reality now…

Maybe one day I will turn FMR into a full scale Justice League. I’ll need a few more heroes though :D

  2. Dude, 1 – Congrats on the new gig!
2 – Welcome back to the regular grind and I hope it pays well!
3 – You are one of 5 film sites I bother with on the Web
Lastly, If you want any help you say the word as my situation is flexible and I can create considerably more content than I already do for Brian and K.O. and would love to work with you.

Right now I do reviews, ‘casts, DVD Tuesdays and an occasional ‘Found on Netflix.’
Shoot me a tweet as always @filmric

  3. What is this now? FMR Inc. Daniel Fogarty C.E.O.(Cinematic Editing Overlord). It’ll be good. Kinda like the MILF or something. Glad it’s 70’s Richard. I’ll get to comment on his stuff. His site has Google, a bitch to comment through. And Morgan, well I’ve given him shit more than once so no problem there. Still must be painful for ya, King of this year’s Lammies and all. But I’m still rootin’ for FMR!

    • Yeah, I got used to the whole BlogSpot thing over at Richards. Not that bad once you get used to it. Of course, nothing beats WordPress ;)

It is a little painful, yeah. I was able to build this thing up pretty good, I hate to have to scale back, you know? But, thankfully, I’ll be able to keep things rocking to some degree, you know? Better than watching it die a slow death :(

  4. I hope everything goes well at the new job! I’ll miss the consistent reviews and sharing of cheese, but we’ll still be around as often as you can post! We all trust you to keep up and we know we’re in good hands!

  5. Bluto: What? Over? Did you say “over”?
Nothing is over until we decide it is!
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

    Otter: [to Boon] Germans?

    Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.

Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough…

[thinks hard of something to say]

Bluto: The tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!

Congrats to Fogs on his new elite position.
Morgan and Richard addition to FMR just makes the blog…
More Rich [head nodding]; oh yeah :-)

  6. Congrats on the new job, and best of luck to you! I will miss Movies Everyone Should See and Tossin’ It Out There, but I completely understand and I’m looking forward to seeing content from your new contributors. Fogs’ Movie Reviews is one of my favorite movie review sites — keep up the good work! :)
