Ok, everyone. We’re going to bump our weekly discussion up a day in order to talk about the big show, the 85th Annual Academy Awards… better known as The Oscars.
What did you think? Did you watch? What was your favorite part? Your least favorite part? What did you think of Seth MacFarlane?
Even if you didn’t watch, I’m sure by now you’ve checked out the list of winners. What do you think there? Any surprises? Sure, the mortal locks came through, like Anne Hathaway and Daniel Day-Lewis, but we also saw Ang Lee upsetting Steven Spielberg and Christoph Waltz winning his second Oscar for a Quentin Tarantino movie!
There’s tons to talk about, it was a crazy show. From Captain Kirk to sock puppets to Ted, the entertainment portion was all over the place, and the awards portion rewarded some very well deserving people!
Hello and welcome to another episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast!
In this episode, the Tanker and I go over the Oscars. The winners, the losers, the show… We review how our predictions stacked up, share our thoughts on Billy Crystal a bit, and Tank calls me a prude for not approving of the Bridesmaids job as presenters.
We also go over the weekly Box Office results in our Box Office roundup. There, I share my thoughts on Amanda Seyfried’s “Gone”, and “Act of Valor”.
For our featured review this week, we have the Paul Rudd Jennifer Aniston comedy “Wanderlust”, the story of two New Yorkers who find their way to living in a hippie commune! Will we see eye to eye?
A big thanks to everyone who gave our Facebook page a like this week, and I appreciate everyone who’s moved their comments and feedback there! You all rule!
Oscar has spoken, and “The Artist”, and everyone thought, has been crowned king… Meryl Streep was given another jewel for her crown, George Clooney was not.
So today’s topic of conversation is the Academy Awards, obviously. Yet I realize that many people won’t have watched the show, or don’t really have any connection to this year’s “class” of movies, so we’re going to broaden the discussion to the Oscars in general. If you’d like to comment on last night’s show specifically, that’s great, but if you’re still confused how “How Green Was My Valley” beat out Citizen Kane, have at it. If you’ll never forgive “Ordinary People” for beating out “Raging Bull”, let us know…
To me, as much as the Academy Awards are irritating at times, they’re still one of the most prestigious awards in the world. It’s also a very tough, tough task… and I think they get it right far more often than they get it wrong.
Personally, it seems as though “The Artist” has been given the awards months ago, and there was some precious little suspense last night. Streep’s win was shocking, because she definitely didn’t give the best performance of the year, but Oscar likes the things Oscar likes. Just look at “Hugo” winning best visual effects over all the movies it did… wow.
So let me hear it people, what do YOU think of the Oscars? Can’t wait to see the Red Carpet each year? Do you play in Oscar Pools? How’d your picks do? Happy for Streep? Pissed? What’s the biggest Oscar fumble ever? “Chariots of Fire” over “Raiders”? LOL What do YOU think of the Oscars
Overture, curtain, lights!
This is it. The night of nights.
No more rehearsing or nursing a part.
We know every part by heart!
Overture, curtain, lights!
This is it. We’ll hit the heights!
And oh, what heights we’ll hit!
On with the show, this is it!
Ok, here we go folks. I honestly don’t watch the actual Oscar ceremony often, and when I have it’s always been kind of a sporadic thing, clicking through, waiting for the big awards. I’ve never watched an entire show, never seen the red carpet pre show… Seeing as I’m blogging now though, I figure I’ll keep a running diary so if anyone wants to snark along they can! I’m going to try to post once an hour, or as closely thereto, where breaks and such make sense.
Bear with me through typos and whatnot, there won’t be time to edit.
Hello, and welcome to another edition of The (title pending) Movie Podcast! Sorry we’re late this week folks, it’s on me, I haven’t been up to my usual YAH! strength.
In this week’s episode, the Tankster and I break down a very surprising week at the box office, then go into our featured reviews of the week - “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, and “This Means War”!
But the prime real estate here is our Oscar preview… Mr Tanski and I go over all the major categories, breaking down the contenders and making our predictions! We also cover the “who we’d like to win even though they dont have much of a chance”s. Call it our Oscar Preview Special, if you will.
As always, it’s an entertaining podcast full of movie related goodness from your hosts, Tank and Fogs. You can download or play the episode directly from our Buzzsprout page HERE, or search for us and/or subscribe on iTunes!
Happy Friday everyone!! This week’s supersized #FF goes to our buddy NTEMP over at Never Too Early Movie Predictions! NTEMP is clocking the Oscars all year round, and with them coming up right around the corner, now’s the time you want to check out his site in order to stay wired in to all of the latest trends and info…
I leaned heavily on his blog during MAJOR Awards season in order to try to ensure I saw as many movies as I could that were in statuette contention prior to making my own choices. And I’ll tell you this, he had an excellent track record leading up through the nomination process. Kept me WELL informed.
