World War Z

When the Zombie Apocalypse quickly overruns the world, Brad Pitt risks it all in search of the truth.

“World War Z” is a zombie movie light on zombie action, with some events that will require more than your usual suspension of disbelief. However, given its troubled production and lackluster promotional campaign, it certainly wound up more enjoyable than I expected going in.

New Episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs

PodcastHappy Wednesday everyone, here’s this week’s (title pending) for ya!

This time up, Tank and I cover this week’s big new release starring Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini and Ray Liotta… “Killing Them Softly”. Then, I cover “The Collection”, while Tank swings back and updates us on his thoughts on “Rise of the Guardians”!

Once we wrap up our reviews, we launch into a discussion of the career of Brad Pitt. Mr Tyler Durden himself. His best roles, his comedies, how freaking crazy we think his Chanel commercial is. LOL.

All that, plus the Box Office Roundup and On the Radar, and you have a fantastic episode of (title pending) goodness! Check it out! You can download it directly, here, or as always, search for us on Stitcher Radio or iTunes using the keywords (title pending) or Tank and Fogs!

Killing Them Softly

Killing_Them_Softly

Brad Pitt plays a cold-hearted hit man called in to clean up after a mob poker game, run by Ray Liotta, is robbed. To do so, he’ll need the help of another trigger man, played by James Gandolfini.

As highly enjoyable as such a recipe sounds, it didn’t manage to come together for me onscreen as well as I’d hoped. As sad as I am to say it, “Killing Them Softly” is more like “Killing Them Slowly”, with other notable flaws mixed in along the way.

Happy Feet Two

I’ve been trying to think of a way to put this into words… I mean, that IS the trick of this whole thing after all.

“Happy Feet Two” is very pretty to look at, it has the requisite amount of “messages”. There are funny scenes and characters, and a decent enough storyline for an animated film. All the parts SHOULD be adding up to a better movie when I do the movie formula math in my head, but they don’t.

Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe its too calculated, too formulaic, over-produced.

Whatever it is, it doesn’t connect with me, and as a result it winds up feeling superficial.

Tossin’ It Out There: What do YOU think of Brad Pitt?

Yesterday, it was reported that Brad Pitt intends to retire from acting within three years, by the age of 50.

While he didn’t specifically say what his intentions were for his post acting career, he did tell reporters that he was enjoying producing and that he and Angelina Jolie may not be finished building their own third world country adopting children.

After seeing him in Moneyball, this news is relatively shocking to me. It seemed as though he was ready to take on some different roles, some bigger acting challenges, etc, etc and I really have a hard time believeing that he would just walk away from it all when he still has so much in the tank. Of course, you know how these things go, it could just be an off handed comment or thought that got over reported, it could be something he intends now but will never wind up following through with, or he could try it, realize how much he misses it, and be back in front of the camera within a few years.

Regardless, it’s a good subject for “Tossin’ It Out There” – not necessarily just on the news, although if you like of course, you may.

But I was thinking more the man himself, his movies, his career, how he and Angelina have a baby farm, that type of stuff. Just in general I’ve been thinking that there’s only so many ways to ask “What’s your favorite movie”, so as we go along here, mixing in “what do you think” of certain superstars and directors will make for good discussions.

So what do you think? Brad Pitt? Overrated pretty boy? Underrated as an actor? What’s your favorite movie of his? Let’s hear it!!
