Not that this topic was inspired by any particular movie this weekend…
But via the comments it did cross my mind that there are certain actors and actresses that people just can’t stand. Whether or not they can act, or if they choose poor parts, whatever it is… some people just establish this reputation for being widely reviled.
Kristen Stewart comes immediately to mind. It seems as though there are legions of people who can’t stand her. Adam Sandler, too. His recent run of movies has created an enormous backlash.
But it doesn’t have to be anything rational, or popular, if there’s someone you really don’t like, let’s hear it! Maybe… Charlize Theron bugs you or something. Everyone seems to love her, and that adds fuel to the fire for you. LOL. Seriously whoever it is, for whatever reason… if you can’t stand, let ‘em have it!
Heralded by an amazing advertising campaign, featuring an impressive cast, and boasting an impeccable pedigree, “Prometheus” was a film burdened with expectations that few films face. Ridley Scott was returning to the “Alien” universe, and he had a full house of incredible actors and actresses going with him. The film’s astounding trailers were accompanied by a series of highly effective viral videos that whet our appetites for sci-fi awesomeness.
It’s perhaps unfair then, that I saddle it with the expectations I had going in. Those are mine.
And so I won’t.
I’ll say instead that “Prometheus” disappointed me not because I was let down in comparison to the thoughts I had going in, but because it is so tantalizingly close to greatness as the movie that it is. Maddeningly close.
“Snow White and the Huntsman” last week, “Prometheus this week. No doubt about it, Charlize Theron is front and center right now.
She began with “2 Days in the Valley” and has put together 41 credits on IMDb. She has the two movies this year, and three in various stages of pre-production – she’s definitely hardworking. She won an Oscar for her role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster”, and was nominated for another a few years later for “North Country”. Her filmography has a wide variety of movies, and even includes a brief stint on the comedy “Arrested Development”
So what do YOU think of Charlize? Can’t get enough of her? Sick of her yet? Overrated? Underrated? Was the biggest fallacy of “Snow White and the Huntsman” that Kristen Stewart could ever be considered fairer than the lovely Ms. Theron?
Whatever it is, we want to hear it, let us know! What do YOU think of Charlize Theron?
In all honesty, I had rejected this movie in my mind prior to going into it.
Snow White is not some warrior in shining armor leading an army. She’s not. Snow White wears that blue and red and yellow taffeta dress with the poofy freaking shoulders and when she’s not hanging with her dwarfish friends or chowing apples, she sings to birds. Ok? That’s Snow White.
So perhaps this is all overreaction to my complete underestimation of it, but “Snow White and the Huntsman” was an excellent, highly entertaining movie. More than just a retelling of the Snow White tale, it’s an epic fantasy story, replete with mythical creatures, knights in armor, a princess in a tower and a very, very wicked witch.
I don’t know if it’s the fairest of them all, but it’s easily worth a trip to the movies.
“Young Adult” is the story of a divorced writer whose series of teen books is on the verge of cancellation. She’s lonely, cynical, selfish, emotionally retarded, and clearly alcoholic.
When she receives an email regarding her ex boyfriend’s new baby’s “naming ceremony”, she gets it in her head that she and he were meant to be together. So she travels home to seduce him away from his wife and newborn child.
Comedy and drama both ensue, but neither in heaping portions.
