When a divorced father brings his two daughters to a tag sale, the youngest one is attracted to an ornately carved wooden box. They purchase it, much to their eventual regret. Before long she’s exhibiting an unhealthy attachment to the small chest, and eventually, she begins to act out. Strange behavior gives way to inexplicable behavior, until her father is forced to face the truth.
His daughter is possessed by a spirit which she inadvertently freed from the box.
It’s an intriguing horror premise, and very well acted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the father, and Natasha Calis as the possessed young child. They can’t, however, overcome the regrettable choice to have the entity be physically growing within the girl, nor the absolute collapse of the movie’s atrocious third act.
