The Big Wedding
Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton and other notable names star in a disastrous film about a disastrous wedding. Full of flat jokes and poor characters, all in support of a tired, hackneyed set-up, “The Big Wedding” is one you should just tell, “I don’t”.
Pain & Gain
Based on an unbelieveable, appalling true story, “Pain & Gain” is a tale of three meat-headed bodybuilders who kidnap and torture a local businessman until he agrees to sign over all of his assets. Even more shockingly, they almost get away with it.
In Bay’s hands, it becomes an indictment of the American dream, especially the obsession with strength, size, status and success. He’s the perfect director to make a bigger, stronger, dumber movie about big, strong, dumb men who want it all and are willing to go to any lengths to get it.

This time up, our movie recommendation comes from FMR stalwart Andrew Gelfman, who recommends David Mamet’s ”Redbelt”.Mamet has written some awesome films, and I used to practice martial arts myself. So the combination of the two factors leaves me predisposed to liking this one quite a bit! I’m stoked to check it out!

Under the Radar?: “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”
“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” is a romantic dramedy starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightly as two neighbors who meet for the first time as the earth faces an impending cataclysm in the form of a massive asteroid on a collision course. With the planet having mere weeks left before it’s obliterated, the two haltingly help each other find their loved ones during the final days.
One-third comedy, one-third romance, and one-third drama, “Seeking a Friend” is an enjoyable indie that’s bound to make audiences think about what’s important in their lives.
Movies That Everyone Should See: “Rear Window”
In 1954, Alfred Hitchcock released a movie about a man laid up after an injury, who may or may not have witnessed one of his neighbors disposing of a dead body. Starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, two of the biggest stars he would ever work with, it would become one of the biggest hits of his career and go down in history as one the finest movies he ever made. It’s a film that’s not merely a murder mystery, but one absolutely rife with subtext.

Oblivion
Tom Cruise stars in a sci-fi tale of duplicity and deception in “Oblivion”. As a drone tech stationed on the ruined Earth, he slowly comes to discover that all is not as it seems with his assignment.
The resulting tale is one of sci-fi drama and intrigue, mixed with occasional bursts of action. It’s an enjoyable, though not entirely original, science fiction movie.

“Dead Ringers”.I’ve seen a couple of Cronenberg films, and they’re always whacked out and wonderful. So I’m curious and enthusiastic to check out “Dead Ringers”. Plus, Blain speaks extremely highly of it, so let’s check it out!

The Place Beyond the Pines
“The Place Beyond the Pines” is an epic tale of crime and corruption, and fathers and sons.
It’s a generational tale, complete with bank robberies, kidnappings, corrupt police officers, drug deals, and death. It’s a lengthy tale that shifts perspectives multiple times. Regardless, it will hold your attention all the way through, as the drama grabs hold and doesn’t let go.

In 1975, a film was released that would change the business of Hollywood, launch the career of one of the most beloved directors of all time, and become one of the most famous movies ever made. It created a worldwide phenomenon, gave us an unforgettable theme, and made countless people afraid to swim in the ocean.
That film, of course, was “Jaws”.
