Ok, boys and girls. The Holiday Season is over… and the Spring Season, full of mini Blockbusters, is still months away.

Between now and then lies Hollywood’s dumping ground. The Hollywood fields lie fallow in the winter, bearing little quality product. It’s the two months of the year we need to “Get through”. While January typically offers some limited releases from the prior year going wide, there’s typically little else to get excited over.

Will this year be different? Are there any movies to get excited about these next two months? Let’s take a look at the release slate and see what we’ve got!

Trouble With the Curve

Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams star in a picture about an aging father who’s having difficulties with his job, and has never connected well with his daughter. Together they try to work out their issues, scout a highly touted baseball prospect, and navigate her issues with work and romance.

It’s a lot of ground to cover, and the movie isn’t able to avoid the temptation to utilize simple solutions and pat resolutions. But the considerable charms of the cast make “Trouble With the Curve” a mildly enjoyable, if ultimately forgettable experience.

The 2012 Fall Movie Preview – Part I

With this weekend’s release of “The Expendables 2″ and “ParaNorman”, the summer movie season is pretty much over. One weekend remains in August, and those movies wont have much room to run before school is back in session.

Nope, the season of the big blockbuster is behind us. It’s time to look ahead to the fall.

Not to despair, though, the fall brings sharp movies for the thinking movie fan. Movies which may have more selective box office appeal, but which may be some of the best movies all year.

So click through to take a look at the first part of this year’s fall preview. Today we’ll look at the last week of August, plus September, and then we’ll come back tomorrow with October and the first week of November. Together they’ll take us right up to the start of the Holiday movie season, and the November 9th release of Skyfall!

Safe House

Denzel authors another bad ass.

This time it’s Tobin Frost. CIA legend. Frost was a high-profile agent who specialized in interrogation. He later defected and has been on the run and off the grid for nearly a decade. Suddenly he shows up at a US Consolate office and turns himself in.

He’s brought to a CIA safe house run by rookie Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds). When the safe house is breached, Weston is forced to grab Tobin and go on the run.

Movies That Everyone Should See: “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”

In July of 1991, the world was treated to an incredible motion picture. “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. It’s an action movie with science fiction underpinnings, a chase film with the fate of the world as the stakes.

It’s easily one of the greatest “Action Movies” ever made.

But as great a movie as it is, it’s also an important one. “T2″ was a milestone movie in the realm of special effects. A groundbreaking pioneer. Audiences stepped into theatres from a world where “CGI” held no meaning for them, and stepped back out after the show into a world where there was no doubt – movies had a powerful new weapon in their arsenal to bring the imagination into reality onscreen.
