Savages

The lead story here, undeniably, is that Oliver Stone is up to his old tricks.

“Savages” is old school Stone. It’s a story with a cast of crazy and colorful characters, caught up in violent situations, soaked in drugs and sex, performed by a great cast who all seem to be relishing their deliciously cheesy roles, and wrapped up in Stone’s unmistakable, inimitable directorial stylings.

I don’t know if I can call it good, but it sure as Hell is fun.

Battleship

Right up front? This movie is in the running for the dumbest movie of all time.

There are easily twenty to twenty-five points in the movie where you could look at what’s happening onscreen and list ten good reasons why whatever’s going on would be either impossible, improbable, incongruous, or idiotic. And that’s ALLOWING for the possibility of an alien invasion in the first place, I’m not even counting that…

Yup, this script was someone’s Jr. High creative writing assignment, but on the plus side? They blow a lot of shit up.

New Episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!!

Alright! We’re back! Another awesome episode of TPMP in the can!

This week, Mr (Tank) Tanski and I go over the two biggest releases – “John Carter” and “Silent House”, and I throw in my two cents on the latest Eddie Murphy stinker “A Thousand Words”.

It was an interesting week at the box office, too, there were definitely some surprises in this week’s “Box Office Roundup”, so check it out!

And then for our feature discussion, Tank and I take turns throwing out some sci-fi suggestions for you. In honor of “John Carter” we felt it appropriate to recommend a wide variety of movies, covering the sci-fi spectrum. We’ve got cheesy movies, hidden gems, hardcore classics… the only ones we stay away from are the big blockbusters like Star Wars and Star Trek, etc… You already should have seen THOSE. :)

It’s another great episode for you, we hope you enjoy it! You can download it directly here or look for us on iTunes! If you do check us out via iTunes, please remember to give us a rating and a review, those really help us out! :D

You can find us on Facebook here in order to follow all the goings-on with TPMP all week long!

John Carter

Disney’s “John Carter” is a maddeningly inconsistent movie.

At times it’s adventurous, imaginative, and spectacular to watch. At others, it’s ponderous, clumsy, and even occasionally silly. For every moment of awe that is created by its lavish special effects, there’s an offset by a line of terrible dialogue. For every moment where the Martian culture and creatures make you think “Oh, that’s kind of cool”, there’s and offsetting moment that makes you go “Tsch… Come on…”

It’s certainly not a bad ticket purchase, but it’s a long way from living up to its potential.

TV Talk: A Eulogy for “Friday Night Lights”

I just finished watching the 90 minute final episode of the remarkable television show “Friday Night Lights”. I have to say, I think that’s one of the best finales of all time. My knee jerk reaction is to put it only behind “The Shield” and “The Wire” in terms of final episodes. I laughed, I felt my heartstrings get tugged on. I swear, there were a couple of moments where it got a little dusty in my livingroom. Just a little. I’ve yet to officially figure out my all time tv top ten, but it’s a safe bet that if “FNL” doesn’t make it, it will at least received SERIOUS consideration.

It was a remarkable show for many reasons… the acting, the cast, the directing, its business model. There were a lot of reasons why this show was not only praise worthy but noteworthy.

Now it’s over, and I honestly find myself a little choked up. You know, just a little.
