The Hangover Part III

In 2009, Todd Phillips and co. had a surprise smash hit with “The Hangover”, a movie about three men who awaken from a night of blackout drinking to find they’ve lost one of their friends. They then have to recreate the events of the night before in order to retrace their steps and find their friend. In 2011, Todd Phillips and co. had another smash hit with “The Hangover Part II”, a movie about three men who awaken from a night of blackout drinking to find they’ve lost one of their friends. They then have to recreate the events of the night before in order to retrace their steps and find their friend.

“Part II” was widely criticized for being a regurgitation of the first film. It was nearly a note for note facsimile, and critics punished it accordingly. In response, Phillips and co. pledged “The Hangover Part III” would not be “the same old thing”. Instead, they made a movie that has little to do with anything fans love about the first two films.

No drunken debauchery, no blackout, no “Hangover”.

Worst of all, few to no laughs.

The Muppets

I couldn’t be happier to bring you this news.

“The Muppets” isn’t just good, it’s great. For fans from the “Old Days” it will be a joyous reunion. A thorough reminder of why you loved them to begin with. For children and young people who are new to the Muppets, you’ll love meeting them. They’re going to be characters you’ll love for the rest of your life.

It’s a song and dance comedy spectacular that’s full of laughs, feel good story moments and wonderful, colorful, comical characters. It literally gave me chills at several points, and I sat watching it with a grin ear to ear from beginning to end.

Muppets fans? Raise your expectations 100%. I guarantee you leave saying “That was SO awesome”.

Now showing on cable: “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”

One of the movies which premiered this last weekend on cable (Cinemax) was “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”. I just caught up with it last night.

“It’s Kind of a Funny Story” stars Keir Gilchrist as a depressed teen (Craig) who checks himself in to a mental ward when he experiences suicidal thoughts. There, he encounters Zach Galifianakis (Bobby) as a fellow patient.

The movie covers Craig’s stay within the ward as he deals with other patients, his parents, a girl he meets there and a girl he knows from outside. Bobby mentors him in the type of slightly offbeat manner you’d expect from Galifianakis. He basically plays Alan from “The Hangover” without the big laughs. Of course there’s a variety of other crazies around, as there always are in mental ward movies.
