Tossin’ It Out There: Plug Your Blog

plugOk, everyone, here we go! Once again, Fogs flirts with folly, as I decide to live on the wild side and open this thread up to people link dumping and plugging their own sites!

In light of my second straight nomination for Best Community Builder, and stolen from following 3Guys1Movie’s last “Hump Day Have Your Say” topic, where they courted links andΒ requested blog recommendations, I felt it might be a good idea to do some community building and let bloggers haveΒ a chance to tout their own sites. Hopefully, it will give us all a chance to find some more blogs and get to know each other a little better.

Could this blow up in my face? Yesssss, yes, it could. LOL πŸ˜€ I can easily think of three or four ways this could wind up in disaster.

Here’s the catch! If you drop a link to your blog (and you can be as verbose as you like in trying to entice visitors) YOU HAVE TO BE ON YOUR HONOR YOU WILL VISIT ANOTHER BLOG POSTED HERE! (Preferably one you’ve neverΒ visited before.)Β I think it’s only fair, and if we put that in place, it will up the chance of people actually visiting others, and seeing some actual referals out of this!

Now, for those of you who don’t blog, this will be a fine opportunity for you to find other blogs and see what they’re all about. Feel free to comment on any comments that you like, but please, let’s be supportive, ok? πŸ˜‰

So! Let’s hear it. Tell us about your blog. Drop a link to your favorite article, or your homepage. Tell us why you started blogging, or why you keep blogging, or what you hate about blogging, it’s up to you. Dont say anything, and just dump a link! That’s fine too. For everyone that reads and visits, let’s show that FMR Community spirit by taking a minute and clicking through and visiting some new folks!

Ok, that’s it! Let’s have at it! Plug your blog!

  1. Great idea, Fogs, thanks πŸ˜€ !!

I’m Daniel and I’m an aspiring film critic. My blog is called Daniel’s Film Reviews. It will turn one-year old in August. I review movies, and during the school year generally post about 3-5 reviews a week. I’ll be more active in the summer, and I plan to post new features. The most recent review on my blog is ‘Jurassic Park 3D’. I often get out to the theatre each weekend to see some new releases, and the reviews that I will post this weekend will include ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, ’42’, and ‘Scary Movie 5’ (those are the guaranteed ones, but I might post reviews of ‘Oblivion’, ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ and ‘Trance’, if I see those). I also predict the box office!

So come on over and comment if you please, I like a good discussion.

By the way, Fogs, I’m checking out two blogs now and will be back when I have more time to look at more πŸ™‚ Thanks again!

    • Heh. LOL. I learned last year there’s no such thing as “In the bag” Mikey. πŸ™„ Though, hopefully this sort of thing will help.

The others in that category are titans, too, though. Seriously. Big time comment communities, blog-a-thon contributors, etc etc. It’ll be a battle!

Hope some people check out Screenkicker for you, and dont forget to click through some links here, too! πŸ˜€

  2. My blog is cinematic corner –

Theoretically it’s a movie blog but it also contains great amounts of Game of Thrones as the author is hopelessly obsessed, gifsets of handsome men undressing themselves and a number of disturbing and sad personal thoughts and details πŸ™‚

But at least it looks pretty πŸ™‚
Like a stunning wallpaper…in an asylum. In Westeros.

    • It’s all true. Gorgeous blog, with a slight touch of “crazy” [Nodding rapidly] Very very true.

AND Game of Thrones central. πŸ˜€ Of course, that keeps those of us who fall behind on the show away…. 😯 I swear, I’ll watch it tomorrow!! 😯 LOL

  3. I *was* content to just skim through all the links people have been leaving without plugging my own soapbox, but then I remembered I’m heading into a part of the year where my readership tends to take a bit of a dive.

So, Hi! For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Ryan and I write The Matinee which can be found here:

About a week from now, I’ll be running around town soaking up a documentary film festival called Hot Docs. I’m even going to be interviewing some of the filmmakers for my podcast. So drop by, nose around, leave a comment, and if you like what you see – spread the word.

Thanks gang – looking forward to following a few of these sites a bit more closely!

    • “I’m heading into a part of the year where my readership tends to take a bit of a dive.”

Mmmm… aint THAT the truth. You’d think that readership of movie blogs would increase during the summer cause the movies get bigger, but no… that is NOT how it works. 😯

Doing another festival, huh? Good luck. I’m sure that shit is madness, even though I’ve yet to attend one personally.

I can definitely vouch for the matinee AND the Matineecast folks. High quality stuff, not doubt! Check it out!

      • It’s not summer – it’s the festival. My readership is somewhat iffy on non-fiction, and iffy-er yet on nonfiction they haven’t seen. So think happy thoughts while I wish for click-thru’s.

As for you, kind sir, you MUST get your butt to a festival in the next year. It’s like moviegoing nirvana when you find out about some wonderful titles that you might never otherwise have an opportunity to see! What’s more, with this space, you could well qualify as press and get the festival to spot you the pass (which is what Hot Docs is doing for me).

I’d circle Tribecca 2014 on the calendar…or hell, make a drive northward for TIFF 2013. Looks like Roan is even coming up this autumn!

      • Oh yeah? Wow. From DC even? Hm.

Its stuff to consider. 2013 is probably not the year for it for me (economically), but its on the agenda long term, for sure. And TIFF has potential. Impressive line up last year, plus a ton of bloggers went. πŸ˜€

Tribecca 2014 has potential too, though NYC isn’t as easy as it might seem from here πŸ˜‰

I think next year I definitely go the press route for Comic-Con. I screwed up this year by not doing that, and then getting shut out for tickets. Live and learn, you know? 😦

  4. This is another great idea for community building. I will make every effort to drop by all the sites here that post a link. I’m not interested in all of the topics these sites promote but I want to support everyone for participating and it might lead to something that is wonderful that I never would have found otherwise.

My site started as a Summer Project, focused on films released in the summers between 1970 and 1979.[For example here is my post on JAWS: I periodically return to those years to update a film I missed in the original project. Since September 2010, the blog focuses on theatrical releases that I manage to get out to. Occasionally I will post on a VOD or Cable movie as well. I also post on film related events that I manage to get to in the Southern California Area. Sometimes I get a bee in my bonnet and just go off for anyone to see

My posts are spoiler free commentaries/reviews. I frequently personalize the experience because I want a conversation not a lecture to be the basis of my relationship with those who stop by. I try to be amusing without being snarky, and my goal is to match a definition of what a blog is that I once saw, “a continuing conversation”.

    Here is the home page
come on by and look around.

    • Wow. ALL the sites will be some work Richard, but its nice to hear you intend to get involved! πŸ˜€ Glad you’re taking to the spirit of it.

I still havent forgotten your Jaws links, btw, I just knew I’d be knee deep in this, the podcast and the Lammies this week. I really havent gotten around to much in terms of actually READING places the past couple of days! 😯

That said, I’ve read a number of Richard’s posts and can attest to his talent as a writer and a film critic. I also love when he puts some personal context to his reviews (Le0p13 does stuff like that too, Richard, if you havent connected with his site, thats a really good recommendation for you) So check him out!!

    • Sure thing, Samantha! Nice Gravatar, btw!

It’ll probably be a bit before I can swing through, but hopefully some others will today!

Listen though, dont forget to return the favor, ok? Be sure to pick at least a couple of links here and check out the blogs! πŸ˜€

    • Thanks buddy πŸ˜‰

I wish I could take more credit for the idea. 3Guys1Movie posted something similar last week and when I saw it I went… Hmmm… πŸ˜€

Its really worked out well, I was worried that this might turn ugly with spam. 😯

As for a record? Mmm. Yeah, its off to a really good start. I think my tops in this series is 205 and all time is 225. It has a shot at those I guess if it keeps going strong tonight!

  5. Great idea! I love finding new movie blogs! I will be sure to search through all the comments.

    My site is Eternitainment:

What makes a film or song resonate with us, and what makes a film make us feel conflicted or depressed? The conflict and the resonance are evidence that, far from being β€˜mindless’, these art forms serve as windows into the hearts and minds of the writers and performers. I want to figure out what they’re saying and why.

I recently completed a 4-part series on the interpretation of No Country for Old Men, a film that has generated discussion and division since its release. I try to pick apart the big ideas, beginning here:

My posting is currently somewhat irregular, however I hope you’ll find some thought-provoking entries in my collection…

Thanks for the opportunity to share!

    • Ahhhh I get it. Like Eternity meets Entertainment. πŸ˜‰ I got you , I got you. πŸ˜€

Hey no problem, it’s my pleasure. But dont forget… click some of these others too and have a look around. Who knows, maybe THAT’S how you wind up making connections and readers today ok? πŸ˜€

“No Country” is an incredible movie! Totally worth of a 4 part series, btw!

  6. Hi,

My name is Jerome Wilson and my blog is Out Where The Buses Don’t Run No More at I was only posting erratically for a few years but I’ve been trying to do at least one post a week since the beginning of this year. I write mostly about movies but I also occasionally write about music and other things that hang round in my head until I write down my thoughts about them.. In my latest post I discuss The Place Beyond The Pines, a 1933 mystery called Girl Missing and a Frank Zappa TV special. so obviously my tastes go all over the place. I just hope that whatever I say makes sense to someone beside me.

    • Ya, you’ve got some cattershot going on, huh Jerome? πŸ˜€ That’s cool, looks fun! Dont worry about making sense to other people, there’ll always be someone out there on the same frequency! πŸ˜€

Dont forget to visit some of these other sites posted here today, too, ok? That’s part of the deal here!

    • “I’m always up for self-promotion.” Yup! What Blogger isnt, right? πŸ˜€ Anyways, I thought people might enjoy this today. Thanks for chiming in CK! Be sure to check some other folks out too though ok? πŸ˜€

  7. Holy plugs Batman!!! Nice idea this Fogs, nothing like greasing some voters palms πŸ˜‰

Whilst I predominantly review obscure violent/horror films, I also offer reviews (with more than a little help from amazing guest contributors) for the IMDB Top 250 Films. My long running project Desert Island Films is always looking for new castaways, and Fogs himself has recently (finally!) submitted his choices of 8 films he would take to be stranded on an island with. Hope to see a couple of new faces maybe πŸ™‚

    • Yeah, I told you that that would take awhile, didn’t I? LOL. Now you know I wasn’t kidding!! πŸ˜€

Anyways, yeah, if bribery and publicity for elligble voters helps, I am NOT above it. I’m totally willing and able to grease palms for votes! πŸ˜€

    • Looking forward to reading your picks Fogs!
This has also just reminded me about how long you’ve been waiting on reviews from me Tyson. They will actually arrive in your inbox… soon…ish. πŸ˜€

  8. I would just like to say Fogs that after working my way through these comments, and visiting every blog that I didn’t previously know, I have found a great selection of blogs that I now follow. Plus, today has been my blog’s best day for follows, so THANK YOU for doing this post. It’s awesome.

    • Ha ha! Sweet.

Fogarty from beyond the 3 point line… he shoots… it’s GOOD! Fogarty for 3! πŸ˜€

LOL Hey man, glad it worked out for you, glad to hear you helped me make it a good day for others too by checking through to other blogs.

I mean, that’s the key to it at the end of the day….

  9. You know what I like is being able to actually see everyone’s link to their blog in this post. So many times I will read an interesting comment and then the persons gravatar image will not have a link to their blog. You got to get on that sheet mon.

Every week we pick a movie that the three of us will all watch. Once we have all seen the movie we each submit a review based on a set of predefined questions. None of us looks at or discusses someone else’s review until we post. That way we don’t bias our opinions of the movie and we get to give you 3 unique perspectives on one movie. You can find a list of all of these reviews in the 3 Guys Reviews Category on the Sidebar.

Of course we are all movie fanatics and we tend to watch more than one movie per week. So we created a category called Quick Reviews where we will review films that one of us has seen separately from the group.

We also like to provide you with any upcoming trailers or movie related news that we come across that we think you might find interesting. You can find this information in the categories under Trailers and News/Opinions.

    • Also, occasionally they post great topics that you can rip off and use yourself! LOL πŸ˜€

How was your trip to the zoo, dude? Hope you’re not mad I snaked your idea so that I can build a little extra Community Builder mojo πŸ˜‰

      • Not at all, can’t wait to check out all these links to blogs I have never been to

that field trip to the aquarium went as well as could be expected with 40 preschoolers in a bus for an hour.

I got to pat a shark which was pretty cool!

  11. Hi Dave. First time here. I’m not sure how this plugging thing works. I flipped the USB over three times, and I still haven’t found the right side yet. Do I need some kind of adapter? You’re charging for adapters aren’t you? You son of a bitch.

  12. FINALLY, a chance for some free advertising for my site!

    Or… yeah, it’s

I like to draw stick figures and create infographics, and write about movies where people die and stuff, often because of the mafia or sometimes scurvy. Also, Ingmar Bergman and French movies and Battlefield Earth. Sometimes, I write about TV stuff because Breaking Bad is too damned good NOT to write about.

I’d like to dedicate this comment to Fogs and his indomitable spirit of sharing.

    • I’m actually mildly disappointed you’re actually NOT starting Clunky Clown I think that’s work out well for you John πŸ™„

LOL. You know what the funniest thing about this comment is though, is that there’s no kidding involved in the 3rd paragraph. LOL You DO do stick figures and French movies and somehow it all doesn’t clash. πŸ˜€

  13. For a blog as popular as your to share the wealth like this is a testament to your confidence and ability to truly build a community. I commend you kind sir for looking out for everyone.

I’m going to do the best I can to visit every site listed, even if it takes me the rest of the year. There are so many great blogs out there, and this is allows me and everyone else the opportunity to stumble upon either some that were forgotten or some that had never been found. I look forward to finding some new found entertainment to enjoy. Thank you for that opportunity.

I’m Joe and my site can be found at I tend to see a lot more movies than I actually write reviews for, but do write up the occasional 5-Course review (built around a 5-course Italian dinner) . At times I tend to get a bit personal, but what’s a little emotion among friends.

I’m a big fan of how films perform at the box office, and do a weekly Box Office Prediction column, followed by a weekend recap; both of which include a friendly competition between myself a few other sites you may or may not recognize.

I am also one-third of the Lammy nominated podcast known as As You Watch ( along with Nick ( and Vern ( where we discuss a random top 3 that transitions into our feature film discussion. We are often joined by some incredibly awesome guests, such as Fogs himself.

Finally, I’m an active participant on the incredibly cool new site, where anyone can participate in a predict the box office game.

    Thanks again Fogs!

    • (Livened up those links for you Joe. Gotta use the http:// I think)

You know, I’d have poo pooed the flattery here, but this has been running all day now and I’ve had a couple of people get in touch with me about how they had some good traffic, new subscribers, new commenters, etc. So I’m just glad it worked out well. Honestly? At 10 am, I thought it was 50/50 whether or not it would be a flood of spam, or if people wouuldnt participate, etc… it turned out really well.

Hey before I forget, congrats on your Lammy success. Your show is up for Best Podcast, and you’re part of the DVD courst, etc.

Toss a couple of votes my way if you can work around all the CineKatz voting will ya?! πŸ˜‰
