Tossin’ It Out There: Who do YOU think is the most annoying Movie Character?

ws_Jar_Jar_Binks_1280x800Everyone has had this experience. You’re enjoying a movie, but there’s that one character that drives you nuts. Even in movies you don’t like that much there can be characters that annoy more than others! Whatever kind of experience you’re having with the film, that one character just gets under your skin!

When a character is widely reviled such as Jar JarΒ Binks and “Jill” from “Jack and Jill”, they often take on a life of their own beyond the film, with pop culture carrying the spite for them personally long after the movie fades.

Which character will you pick? Who annoys you?

Can we get some loveΒ hate for Mutt from “Crystal Skull”? Will anyone bring up Stiffler? How about someone from a classic movie, such as Mickey Rooney’s Mr Yunioshi from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”? Maybe something current like “The Hangover”‘s Chow or Alan? Does anyone remember Sofia Coppola’s Mary Corleone?

These are the characters you just want to punch. Who will you choose? Which characters drive you crazy?

Let’s hear it! Who are YOUR most annoying Movie Characters?

  1. The first one that pops instantly to mind is Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod in Fifth Element. I cant tell you how many times I just want to yell “Shut the Fuck Up!” LOL

  2. This first one who comes to mind is Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter. She has a function and is a pretty good character (not useless or anything), but of course he function is to be unbearable and obnoxious. Ugh HATE her. So annoying. Harry Potter actually has a lot of annoying jerkface characters, come to think of it.
Blanche from Bonnie and Clyde. She did nothing useful and did not belong in the film. All she did was scream obnoxiously and get everyone into danger.
I also hate Rex Harrison’s character in My Fair Lady. I hate that entire movie but his character is the main reason why. He doesn’t sing so much as talk, and all he talks about is how great he is because he has the correct accent or whatever, and how stupid and disgusting Audrey Hepburn is because she doesn’t have the correct accent, and his accent in question annoys me anyway…. he has to be the most annoying character I’ve ever run across. He ruined the entire film, though I already didn’t like it so that’s not saying much. Mah can’t believe he won an oscar for that…
Good question though. Jar jar is definitely a good answer too. Nice picture of him getting punched πŸ™‚

    • LOL. Thanks, I laughed when I found it, so I knew I had a winner πŸ˜‰

I’ve never seen My Fair Lady, so I cant comment… which one is Professor Umbridge? Is she the one with all the kitten pictures? LOL If so, yeah, she’s annoying… πŸ™„

      • Yup she’s the annoying one who always wears pink, has the kitten plates, and giggles like a crazy person. Very annoying.
And if you haven’t seen My Fair Lady, count yourself lucky. Save yourself while you still can! It’s one of my most hated films. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

  3. I used to think Fredo Corleone was pretty annoying, but he’s grown on me through the years. He’s still annoying but he’s an important annoying.

Mutt in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sure sucked. He’s a no-doubter contender.

But I think you answered your question with your article’s hero graphic up there. It’s pretty much impossible to be worse than Jar-Jar.

    • Jar Jar is the King, there’s no doubt about it. I hate Mutt, too though.

Can’t support your Fredo comment though aside to acknowledge he’s intentionally supposed to be weak and stupid to a degree, which aren’t endearing traits. Anything further would be akin to saying the Godfather films are imperfect, which obviously is not true. πŸ˜‰

    • LOL I thought those two might get brought up here. What’s the matter Le0p, don’t like racist, annoying characters in your Transformers movies? πŸ™„

That’s Michael Bay, man, he definitely has a way, doesnt he? 😯 What a tool…

    • I like Budd!

Bill : You hocked a Hattori Hanzon Sword?

      Budd : Yep.

      Bill : It was priceless.

Budd : Well, not in El Paso, it ain’t. In El Paso I got me $250 for it.

      LOL πŸ˜€

Mr Vernon was the foil in the Breakfast Club, he’s a dick, but he’s kind of supposed to be. Doesn’t mean he can’t annoy you, but I think he’s a good villain Cindy!

      • Well, I see what you mean. They both played dicks admireably. I suppose it was kind of Budd to give her the flashlight as he’s burying her alive….Mr. V played that obnoxious teacher everyone had once upon a time and I was glad whenever he looked foolish. Jar Jar must be the winner. Could have been written out of the script and no one would have minded. πŸ™‚

  4. Chloe Moretz in Dark Shadows. I just wanted to punch her in the face, she was so irritating. The movie was shit but I could barely watch her scenes.

    • Huh. I guess I didnt mind her, or she got lost in all the crap, for me. She was pretty much a snotty teen, but… Didnt bug me I guess. There was so much wreckage in that film that she might of slipped by though.

Oh, and her ultimate fate in that movie definitely annoyed me, I’ll say that πŸ™„

  5. Oh my frakkin’ God, I didn’t even read the post. I just scrolled all the way down here and had to type Bella Swan. Her snortface shtick annoys the crap out of me.

      • I seem to bear him far better if I don’t see him, but offff, so annoying. Alright, will semi cede Kung Fu for you, but it still doesn’t get him off the hook! Also, Kirsten Dunst in all the Spider-Man movies.

    • Jack Black in “I Know what you did last summer” sequel definitely one of the most annoying characters of all time!

But what’s funny is that someone who plays such an atrocious character can play great characters in other movies – like in “Shallow Hal” he was fantastic! It’s amazing what a huge difference a director makes.

      • He’s had a lot of really funny roles. Saving Silverman, Bernie, Tropic Thunder, School of Rock…. he’s taken on some real garbage, too, but I like him, definitely.

Plus of course, he was Kung Fu Panda. πŸ˜€

  6. Well Jar-Jar almost deserves a whole shrine in this category. I’ll also see your “Mutt” and raise you one Willie from Temple of Doom as the most annoying character in any Spielberg movie, even beating out “Unix Girl” and all the other non-Sam Neill characters from Jurassic Park.

    Some honorable mentions for me:

    1. Hudson from Aliens. I’m well on record of preferring Alien to Aliens, and Hudson is a big reason why. He’s also why I actively avoid Bill Paxton movies to this day. I don’t like whiney characters, and I especially don’t like whiney Marines. That he only spoke in catchphrases also bugs me.

    2. John Conner from T2. I know T2 gets a lot of love around here, but I cannot love a movie that puts this kid out there as the savior of the human race. Again with the catchphrases, including an embarassing scene of teaching them to the Term-enegger.

    3. Wendy Torrance from The Shining. Queue Gelf defense in 3… 2… 1… Wendy was a strong character in King’s novel, and was the biggest mis-step in Kubriek’s very loose (but brilliant) adaptation. In the movie she’s shrill, clueless, and overall pretty pathetic.

    4. Scarlet O’Hara from Gone With The Wind. I hate her and almost everything she stands for.

    5. David Marcus from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Like Mutt, he’s the kid that the hero didn’t know he had. He’s whiney. And to make it even worse, he’s a full-grown man that should have come to grips with his daddy issues. Star Trek III quickly dispatches him shortly after revealling that he’s a complete fuck-up, which is one of the only redeeming qualities of Star Trek III.

    • Ok, I can side with you on a couple of those. David Marcus was a whiney punk and I never saw an ounce of Kirk in him. 😦 John Conner is legendarily annoying. Hudson is an annoyance without a doubt, and those characters are very “Cameron” (cardboard cut out).

Scarlet O’Hara connected with the world somehow, I dont knock her. Plus she sets up Rhett to be super cool.

Finally, Wendy Torrance wasn’t Kubricks biggest misstep, she’s Kubricks biggest masterstroke. By making her so annoying, it allows the audience to root for Jack as the hero. As it should be πŸ˜€

      • OK, your Wendy defense is novel. I ain’t buying it, but you are correct in that she completely made me pull for Jack to plant an axe in her forehead.

As for O’Hara, she’s a brilliant character played perfectly by Ms. Leigh. I have no doubt that she came across exactly as the writer and director wanted. That doesn’t mean she isn’t annoying. So annoying that she makes Rhett look like an idiot for marrying her in the first place. He should have not given a damn shortly after meeting her for the first time instead of waiting until the end of the movie.

  7. The existence of “Crystal Skull” is annoying.

As previously stated, Jar-Jar definitely comes to mind.

Newt from Aliens. The character gave Ripley and the Marines a purpose but I found it hard to believe that a 10 year old girl was able to outlive and outsmart an entire colony of xenomorphs while everyone else died.

Speaking of Aliens, Hudson was annoying as fuck too up until the very end when he decided to be a goddamn Marine again.

    • Aliens 2 getting some love hate today! LOL

Newt IS super annoying. Not even just being an annoying lil screaming kid… but I always saw the “writing” in her. She was always inserted into the script in order to give Ripley a maternal opportunity, and I always resented how obvious that was.

Still a pretty great movie though πŸ˜‰

      • Oh I love the living hell out of that movie. Even with Hudson being a whiney turd and Burke being the greasy slimeball he was.

But for however annoying Newt was, it was really all worth it to watch Ripley come out of the lock with the Powerlifter just to scream at the Alien Queen “Get away from her you bitch!”

Was and is the only time I’ve heard my wife cheer while watching a movie.

      • P.S. All the Aliens references I think hit at exactly the same time. I didnt see them until after I posted my first comment.

        Great minds think alike.

  8. You already picked the most annoying for me – Mutt from Crystal Skull. The moment he swung through those trees I wanted to scream! Also, as much as I love The Shining, Wendy Torrence is really quite annoying! Oh and pretty much everyone in Twilight, obviously.

    • I hate pretty much everything about Mutt. The fact that he’s Shia LaBeouf, the swing through the jungle, the way he was written. Everything.

Wendy Torrance is annoying, but that allows us to root for her to get axed in half. LOL

  9. OMG… it’s the bible thumping woman from The Mist. I had to go to imdb to look up her name, Mrs. Carmody played by Marcia Gay Harden. But she’s the first person i thought of. Any time she opened her mouth I wanted to scream.

  10. Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher…any character played by Pauley Shore…every character in That’s My Boy.

    • God. Diaz’s character was AWFUL in Bad Teacher. So was her nemesis palyed by Lucy Punch (thanks IMDb!)

Pauly Shore’s 15 minutes of fame should have been 15 seconds. πŸ™„

Sandler should have gotten his full 15 minutes, but that should be up by now…
